Last night at the Orange Club meeting, I saw another testament to the dumbing down of America and ham radio.....
The question was asked why the 147.06 rptr was down and the answer given was "It was down for maintenance"....I could not believe my ears....at the end of the meeting I walked to the new ham who made that statement and looked him in the eye and said "Nice LIE...its off because the license expired a month ago and it was still on the air illegally..." He replied yep....
?
WTH??? You have to LIE about something like that??? Hell, I forgot to file the renewal on my AM station in Lumberton and finally got it done the DAY before it expired....I got hit with a $1500 fine from the FCC....and that was it.....I didn't lie, I FORGOT......and paid the fine and moved on....didn't hurt anyone and didn't affect my standing with the FCC...
SO WHY THE HELL did this lie about 147.06 come up?? Too arrogant to admit the trustee (who lives in Groves and the 06 rptr is NOT part of the Orange Club) forgot to file the renewal? They didn't want to look stupid??? They think they can pull the wool over people's eyes?? WTH????
?
TELL THE TRUTH.....
?
But they won't
?
I just did.......

Naw....I have my 146.94 just down the road.....higher and better coverage......the 147.06 is owned by DOW (formerly Dupont) but they moved it off the plant property without approval...and put it on a tower built by DPS.....how they got on it is anyone's guess....originally it was a Kenwood TKR750....the?wideband filter went out so instead of changing it, they put it in NB mode.....that was some smart thinking there.....noone was told it was NB......then they changed it to a YSF rptr...but no internet at the site...and that junk Yaesu has issues.....Nope, I don't?want the hassles...but considering?the good ole boy network around here, I'll just keep?to my systems...of course, as N5CIE told me once at a QCWA lunch, they are jealous of my operation....I don't?care.....the clubs are being run by controlling ex CBers now spreading rumors about me....our ARRL DEC made a statement at a club meeting once that TX and Louisiana cops can't talk to each other...WOW....guess he never read NIFOG...and the amount of interop channels on V/U/7/800 LOL!!!! What a dunce...20-30 yrs ago we all worked together and helped each other....now, if you aren't?part of the cliche, you're a "shady"?character (YES they said that about me.....) Last night at the club meeting they talked about putting Allstar on two rptrs here in the area....I've had it on mine for 4 yrs..(copying is the highest form of flattery I guess)...BUT the other sites don't?have internet (they COULD install it there), so they plan to use remote radios at residential locations to talk to the rptr .....20:1 they won't do it legal (ID on the uplink, not send CT or IDs over the downlink and out Allstar)......I have internet at my site....the Pi4 is plugged into a port on the RLC controller so I have multiple ways to control, split it off, etc....I mentioned at one other club meeting a year ago they should just get internet at a site that has a YSF (they keep talking about doing a wireless link back to a site for that; thats been 4 years now)....it never has been done and the club has $6000 in the treasury.....they could get ATT or a hotspot from T Mobile or Verison?at residential rates...Nope...they didnt?think of it so they arent?going to do it.....and of course all the YSFs here are standalone....wow.....that's a great use of them...LOL

Chris, ? Just remember that you are doing a good thing for some hams that use your system and that is a positive. The fact that no good deed goes unpunished, is something we must look past and concentrate on the Positives we do. In the big scheme of things, the whiners spend much of their time whining and saying what somebody should do. They never dream of getting to work and doing it themselves. So, Thanks for what you and I and lots of other Hams that own, pay for and maintain repeaters, do for people that use our systems for FREE and constantly discuss what needs to be improved or fixed on our systems. Sorry to hear about the coordination problems out there. So Cal has its problems with things like a member of our local repeater coordination team hosting an uncoordinated repeater at his own house, part of a huge linked system that jammed out another local coordinated repeater with endless traffic for several years. When it first went on air it was not even in repeat mode, it just transmitted all the traffic from the internet connected linked system just to jam the other coordinated repeater.?
|
Back in the day (during the later 70's), I was coordinated 147.09 as my
channel pair by SCRA (that should bring back memories to some SoCal
folks) at the top of the Palos Verdes peninsula. My call back then was
WA6EMV (and the repeater call was WR6AKB). Only problem was there was an
existing repeater down in San Diego on that channel, part of the GRONK
group.
As the rf path between the two was mostly over water, they heard my
repeater quite well but theirs wasn't so loud up in the South Bay area.
So...they set up a TX that sent CW every 10 minutes. It took me a while
to decipher its message but here's what was sent:
_...? _ _? .? _._?
._._? _.. ._..
Quite clever actually. Anyway, the SCRA re coordinated me to the
first "tertiary split" in SoCal - 146.745 in., 146.145 out. And
there is stayed until I left for Maui in 1989.
Fun times

to decipher its message but here's what was sent:
_...? _ _? .? _._?
._._? _.. ._..
Quite clever actually. Anyway, the SCRA re coordinated me
to the
first "tertiary split" in SoCal - 146.745 in., 146.145 out. And
there is stayed until I left for Maui in 1989.

Yeah Repeater wars it was before I got licensed but the legacy of it still lives San Diego has had many problems with co-existing with repeaters up north, I used to get were the original repeater and we have rights to the frequency, Recently to all that don't know MEXICO has been putting up Business repeaters on the 440-450 section of the band and they can really wipe out some of the US 440 ham repeaters, then the experimental use of the 220 band the spectrum we use is being encroached

Back in the day (during the later 70's), I was coordinated 147.09 as my channel pair by SCRA (that should bring back memories to some SoCal folks) at the top of the Palos Verdes peninsula. My call back then was WA6EMV (and the repeater call was WR6AKB). Only problem was there was an existing repeater down in San Diego on that channel, part of the GRONK group. As the rf path between the two was mostly over water, they heard my repeater quite well but theirs wasn't so loud up in the South Bay area. So...they set up a TX that sent CW every 10 minutes. Many years ago back in the '80s, I was down in Brownsville for a Texas VHFM Society convention and I set my mobile radios up to crossband the popular 2 m repeater to 223.46 simplex as I only had my 220 handheld with me... Well guess what, the police in Matamoras right across the border use that frequency.. somebody hunted me down and told me what was going on and I had to go turn off the cross band... In fact a 220 repeater that was in Northeast Texas got sold to a police department down in Mexico and the trustee who was a W5 call said yeah I forgot to remove the CWID chip so he laughingly said if you ever hear repeater on my frequency with Spanish and it sounds like a police system, just listen for the ID.. because they probably didn't pull it out ??

Last night at the Orange Club
meeting, I saw another testament to the dumbing down of America and ham
radio.....
The question was asked why the 147.06 rptr was down and the answer given
was "It was down for maintenance"....I could not believe my
ears....at the end of the meeting I walked to the new ham who made that
statement and looked him in the eye and said "Nice LIE...its off
because the license expired a month ago and it was still on the air
illegally..." He replied yep....
Little white lie IMHO.? Yes it's down for
"maintenance".? You didn't ask for the details:
"license maintenance".? ;)
I suppose they could've temporarily put someone else's callsign on it
until the renewal was completed.? Since no one knows Morse anymore
just make sure they don't use a voice ID.

Being in SoCal I'm sitting here trying to figure out the particulars of
the above,... and can't because this sort of thing is happening in too
many places :(

There is now what sounds like a multi-site SCADA system in Tijuana with
multiple TXs on 444.418 MHz.? My Sunset Ridge repeater above
Claremont RXing on 444.420 sees only one of the TXs; I think that one
must be on Cerro Colorado, as that does have a nearly LOS path to
Sunset.? But I can't put any other radios on that pair that have a
path into the tropo ducts else their input RXs see all the TXs for a good
portion of the year, making them unusable.

That doesn't sound right: I remember reading through some old CoFeTel
(former Mexican FCC) documents & seeing all the amateur repeater
pairs available in Mexico.? There definitely were 220 MHz amateur
pairs in those documents, so it sounds like a local Mexican official
decided to just do whatever he wanted, in violation of their own
regs.

ugh...that's as bad as the guy that used to use phonetics...he got banned from just about every repeater and club in nearly 100 miles...I'm sure he got in trouble with 'the man' too...interfering with emergency nets in progress was a big one too.
