19 inch rack mount AC power strip

Hi, me again! Lol. Does anyone have a power strip that is 19 inch rackmount with about 8 to 10 outlets which is AC with surge protector? I have one but it came with the rack that I bought in the switch got destroyed so looking to get one to replace it.

Don't know what happened to the switch, but it wouldn't even move. Thought there was a cover over the switch is what someone told me, but I got the piece out and ended up being the switch with wires coming out of the back. If no one has one of these AC power strips for a rack, any good recommendations?

Why don't you just bypass the switch, like a non switchable type. Those switches do go bad in time, and let the outlet circuit breaker trip if there is a short.

Take a look at the Tripplite RS-1215-20. Been using it for many repeater projects, they work very well.

Is that a horizontal mounted strip for 19 inch rack?

Yes, it is horizontal to mount to the rack rails.

I have been following this power strip subject. A couple of things related to this, yes your power switch is broken. I prefer not to have a power switch inside a rack, just another source of problems. Although, maybe your power switch is also a circuit breaker, which is something different and you should probably keep. If someone can see a part number on it, you may just be able to replace it.

The other part of this, how much 120 VAC are you using in the rack??? I can't think of much of anything to power with 120 VAC in the rack. Other than the power supply to provide the 12 VDC that is it. Everything else is 12 VDC. My repeater is a MSF5000 which is powered outside of it's cabinet. I have another cabinet under the MSF5000 and it has a power supply and again, everything runs on 12 VDC.

Hammond Mfg. of Guelph Ontario make several versions of rack mount
power bars.? They would be available through the regular distributors.
?
Fred Hammond? VE3HC? (SK) was the inventor of the power bar !
He told me that several years ago.? Their power bars
are excellent quality not like the junk that is often for sale.
I recently saw a Hammond power bar in a local hospital. (Hospital Grade)

What I'm running off of AC in my cabinet is five AC powered cooling fans, the power supply, and a TNC, which could very well run off DC as well.

The Tripplite RS1215 power strip has outlets in both the front and the back, so I usually use the rear ones for the repeater, power supply, charger, etc, and mainly consider the front ones as a convenience to use mainly during service to plug in my own test gear when onsite. That way one avoids having to hunt down an unused wall outlet which is not always available or within a decent distance.

The lighted front panel main power switch is protected inside a somewhat translucent plastic box that one has to flip the top to actuate the switch, and which can sometimes be quite hard to open. There is also a separate pop-out breaker that is also located on the front next to the power switch. But I rarely use the power switch anyway, as almost all of the racks are equipped with battery backup, so turning off the repeater can really only be done right at the equipment itself (the SLR has a main power switch in the rear).

The strip also comes with 6 outlet caps that I use to cover up the front ones, just to prevent them from looking too enticing to use by others. And mind you the cabinets are usually locked, but for convenience some customers like me to leave the keys on the cabinet door, which has a glass front. So yes seen one or two instances where I come to the equipment and find that some other (usually IT) tech decided it was ok to run some other stuff off there as there where no other convenient outlets available in the room.
