NEED RECOMMENDATION ON UHF n VHF RECEIVE PRE-AMPS

Hi All,

I am looking for recommendations for a UHF and VHF Receive Pre-Amp. If
you have any good, or bad, experiences, please share them with me. Also, if
you have any phone numbers or Web addresses, they would be greatly
appreciated as well.

Thanx

Re: RC850 eprom programming

Dave Karr

Ken,

Don't know about that specific programmer, but many low cost (and even some
not so low cost) programmers don't know about differences in manufactuer
specific programming algorythms. If your programmer doesn't differentiate
between manufacturers, or know about device ID's, that might be an
indication that it is unaware of minor differences in each device.

I'll extend an offer to you, or anyone who needs this kind of service for
repeater related activities, to program devices for you if you cover the
cost of shipping. Data I/O is in the top tier or device programmers and
works closely with the device manufactures, but the price tag reflects it.
;-(

I can also handle EEPROM's (such as those commonly used to control
frequency assigments in commercial radios) and most any other programmable
devices made.

Interested parties should contact me directly.

have downloaded the data from Link and I also have read in from an
Original set of version 3.8 EPROM's from a working controller. When I
program the 4 EPROM's, U8, U16, and U17 program and work perfectly, but
I have not been able to get U15 to program right. When my programmer is
verifying the data in the eprom to the data in the buffer, it detects
errors and the chip will not work correctly in the controller. I am
using a Rommax from EE Tools that has worked perfectly so far on all
other chips I have burned and I have tried several different 27C011
EPROM's with the same results. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Looking for UHF micor Base/Repeater service manual

Hi All,

I am looking to purchase a manual, or copy of a service manual for a UHF
Micor base/repeater station. The unit currently contains the low power, 50
watt pa. I don't have the model number here, but can provide it if need be.

I am also looking to see if any one knows where I can get discriminator
audio from the receiver. I prefer to get it at the card cage, but am not
picky, I would take it from any where.

If you have the service manual, or have the answer to my other problem,
please E-mail me at HQ54@....

Hi All,

I baught a TXRX duplexer at Dayton this year, and I would like to tune
theunit up. I have seen all the tuneup info on the net, however, the TXRX
has some sort of adjustment on the top, something about rotating some sort
of
disc on the top of the can. I am sure if you have a TXRX duplexer, or are
familiar with the tune up instructions, you will know what I am talking
about. If you could help me out in any way, I would certainly appreciate it.

Thanx

to 10 mtrs. Just a question to ponder. I enjoy reading list every night.

Hi
I am looking in to building a repeater. I have a Motorola
Mitrek and
have seen some articles on using a single radio to build a
repeater but
the instructions are not very clear. The Mitrek that I have
is all setup
and working, I am now using it as a voice radio to talk to
only one
repeater. It is just the setting up the radio as a repeater
and the
connections for the controller and things like that. I am
also looking
for a controller and it has to be inexpensive. I don't need
phone patch,
or voice ID, but will need to have at least two radio ports
and will
need the manuals also. Another thing that I am looking for
are duplexers
but for now will not need them.

If anyone can help let me know and where to get more
information.

Thanks

Aside from this, or duplexing it and vibrating the antenna (to make the
cracklies appear), the only way would be to take the antenna apart and
inspect it.

We have repaired ours for about 20 years, the stacked hardline sections
crack where the center conductor is soldered to the outter jacket. We wrap
the area with braid like solder wick to provide more mechincal strength.

If it's 10 years old or more, I would be suspicious. Also, the antenna
that was described may be a 220Mhz antenna.

Yes it can be a 220 antenna from Phelps Dodge, we ordered ours on 220.

On the label is the repeater freq it used: "224.86 / 223.26 "

I need a manual for it. If anyone has one around they would be
willing to copy ( Ill pay for copies and postage if you wish).
Please email me.

-Chris

Hi Chris,
If that antenna is a model PD-220, it is a 2M not a 220 unit and if it
works(checks
out on a SWR meter on 2M) you have an antenna worth close to a grand. Use
it
in good health.

I have a Wiltron SiteMaters frequency domain reflectometer. What I would
do is connect it up and shake the antenna, or sway it back and forth to see
if the return loss varies with vibration. Kind of unscientific, but may work.

If it's 10 years old or more, I would be suspicious. Also, the antenna

had an antenna made using the 2 meter radome. He had extra elements added
to fill up the space in the 2 meter radome. Ended up with more gain.

wondering how one could check whether a
Station Master type antenna is broken or not before it gets ligged to the
repeater site
Install it on a temporary pole (a few feet off the ground) and hook your
repeater to it. While receiving a weak signal "bump" the antenna and notice
if you hear a static or noisy "popping" on the signal.(You MUST be
duplexing ) If you do , then there's a good possibility the soldered joints
on the elements are broken loose or maybe even melted ! You will be wasting
your time to put it up as is.
You might be able to repair the thing by disassembling and reflowing the
joints. It thakes some time and a good hot iron ( a small torch works too).
A local ham club had this situation twice to happen. They chased all sorts
of problems , finally they went over the rptr custodians head and pulled the
antenna down and put up a temporary antenna. The noise stopped. They asked
for an opinion and I told them since the antenna was less than a year old
send it back. They did and got a credit for another antenna. This time
around they bought a folded dipole antenna( DB224). It operates in the worst
of thunderstorms now without so much static and precip noise.
I have an old station master that was given to me by another club that
experienced the same described noise....a slight breeze could blow and all
sorts of noise would cover up weak signals. I use it for receive only at my
shack..I use a DB228 for my 2 meter repeater. I will tell you (my opinion)
that the fiberglass radomed antennas (diamond, comet, hustler, cellwave,db)are
noisy as far as precip is concerned ...more so than the folded dipole
arrays. And no contest as far as lightning is concerned ! My 228 has
sustained two hits in one month with no apparent damage to the antennas or
7/8 heliax. I dont think too many sticks can claim that! So if you got it
for free ...you got nothing to lose. If you are taking up donations for an
antenna...buy a folded dipole (not the cuss craft or maxrad cheapies with
the open dipoles and rg59).
Good luck

Ed

PD-220,
have an antenna worth close to a grand.
yeah, maybe if the goverment was buying it. Otherwise somewhere around 600
bucks or so new...in the box. Better check it out and make sure it isnt
broken inside before you put it up , only to find it is noisy when
duplexing.

Looking for idea's re: a recently purchased TM421A which I hope to use on
our
local repeater for a remote. The former owner forgot to tell me that it
wouldn't transmit above 445 Mhz. The display indicates correctly and will
program, it just refuses to transmit above that freq.
The jumper settings match another working unit.
Has anyone had a similar experience with one of these radio's?

Any suggestions and help will be appreciated.
