Re: How many hams have private repeaters? #poll-notice

Hi all
To me running a closed repeater system goes totally against the ethos of Amateur radio. I'm also in Australia and all repeater systems must be open to any licensed ham to use which is the right thing to do. It is not very welcoming to new hams or visitors to your area when they get kicked off a repeater because the haven't payed your dues. No wonder AR is dying and repeaters are dead all the time.

Re: Digital voice vs analog

900 MHz is where we did the most experimentation with hearclear. One local repeater runs it, another does not. We tested on Mike k8mdm's 900 quantar with and without it as well.

We normally don't run it on our fm repeaters If there's a chance folks are using non Motorola radios.

Originally we were using maxtracs as remote bases, but lately have shifted to GE TMX and Phoenix's. I designed an adapter board that allows you to plug a RIM lite for the maxtrac into a GE TMX.

I seem to recall the 4550s and 5550s also having hearclear on DMR, but that could be my rusty memory. I know the 4580 and 5580 have it.

We have experimented with hearclear on both moto FM and DMR radios and FM repeaters. Also Maxtrac based remote bases.

If you are running Moto radios so the whole system is hearclear, it's a great thing. If some of the radios are not, it's noticable but still useful.

Re: Think we bricked a quantar.

First make sure you the orientation of your replacement 28HC64 is correct in the socket.

Then make sure the SCM is pushed all the way in to the card sockets. They can be a real pain to get seated correctly.

Re: How many hams have private repeaters? #poll-notice

Well time for me to throw to half Pennie¡¯s into the mess. And I fall directly into this question. I put my own DMR system because dmr around me sucks and the coverage is worth crap.?
those hotspot things are about as useless as the coverage is so I put my own. I tried to listing the machine with my RepeaterBook but they refuse to list the machine.?
so screw it I return it in when I want run a weird color code and I get the coverage I want.?
no one else near uses it because well it hasn¡¯t been listed. Does it make MY machine private. Kinda but not on purpose.?
I run gmrs ? Even got a two meter machine out of a dead xpr8400.?
As for owning a frequency that¡¯s a WB2hww thing.?
go on his machine and he¡¯ll start with I own you and every time I inlet it¡¯ll make you want to talk.?

Re: Digital voice vs analog

In the case of the processing on W6MEP, the pre-emphasis is part of the ORBAN 8100A processor and the two work together to maintain deviation.? The processing consists of both gated AGC and a peak limiter.? Pre-emhasis and de-emphasis can only be correct if the transmitters and receivers are in agreement - so to speak.? I look at it this way... It's like a tone control on a radio; you tweak it to where you like the way it sounds.? I ask, what should the transmitter pre-emphais be to work with all radios?? I think audio processing, if done well, is a good thing for a repeater.? I don't worry about things being linear, I worry about things sounding good.? The input and output sound the same except that on the output the levels are much more consistent.? I think if you were to listen to W6MEP, you'd agree.

Thanks,

Re: DR-2X Failure to Switch to DC

I¡¯ll check to see if the battery is under the required voltage.?

I have a battery tender from a motorcycle I no longer own. Guess I¡¯ll add that to trickle the backup battery.?

Re: DR-2X Failure to Switch to DC

While I like your idea of operating a battery and forgoing the AC all together, that would limit the output power to 20 watts.?

Re: GE Rangr X2212 memory raw data help

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi Tyler,
I remember that X2212 chip in a 1/2 tape drive, CDC or something 1980ish.

For the Tait T800 series with eproms, I've just programmed? a 25KHz
channel spacing eprom covering 146.000 to 147.975 MHz. Since the channels
are selected with a DIP switch in the T837-25 Tx and Rx modules, why not
program all possible 2m channels allowing simple frequency changing.

Is there any interest here, yes you guys need a 15KHz or 30KHz set?

Originally a 27C64 eprom but the NM27C256 is much more common.

The two DR-2X that we own say that you can¡¯t recharge the battery from the repeater. It says you need an external regulated charger to recharge the battery.?

I've tested my DR-2X for battery switch over but have never left it connected for actual battery backup. Like any other repeater here I would use a 120VAC coil relay to disconnect the battery during normal use then when power fails the relay will connect the battery. I would also use a separate charger for the backup battery which will of course will be out of circuit during a power failure.?

Yeah when I searched for "FCC Rules" the first hit was this group: "This group is not for discussing FCC rules, ..."? Turns out I was already subscribed to it - been there for over a year.? It did show up as the 8th result in the search, probably because of it's current small size.
