Re: Kenwood TKR NXR series repeater molex plug info
They are available on Ebay. I got one from there with the cable. Just do a search foe KENWOOD TKR repeaters and they will come up. Les Keegan N4LPK?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThe general transmit audio input (+ and -) on the 50 pin telco connector. You may need to set the station to simulcast to get this input active?

Re: R1225 can¡¯t be read
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMy first thought would be to try and read and write a M1225. If you can read that, then you know your programming cable/USB setup works with that software. Another down and dirty R1225 interface for programming is the ON/Off/Vol half of a GM300. I used to service several R1225, that were used for LTR exciters. They only had a computer jumper on the ON/OFF pins. You might try that as well.?I don¡¯t recall ever using any cable but a serial with the 1225 RSS, so I can¡¯t really help you with that.? R1225 can¡¯t be read
Hi there,
My eBay misadventures left me with a set of five Motorola R1225 repeaters, from the estate sale of someone who either ran a radio shop or bought a ton of stuff from one. All five had the pictured (below) connectors on the front, which appear to contain a jumper to allow headless operation and then pass through SPI and ground for programming, plus pass power to the front LED. Four of the five light the front LED. I set up a 32-bit Windows XP (SP3, Professional Edition) virtual machine and set up the programming software. None of the five radios can be read or pass the ¡°CommTest¡± feature. The lot of stuff also included a remote head with the ribbon cables, which seems to work and shows channel 1 on the display, plus the ¡°Rpt Enable¡± LED, on all 5 radios. Using the programming cable through this does not work either. I have tried setting it up on all 5 of the R1225s with the same results. I can use the same programming cable (and the appropriate software) to read a CDM1550 just fine. It¡¯s a USB serial adapter with RJ-45 on the end. I also tried replacing the cable with a new one from BlueMax49ers, using the FTDI chip. Windows likes the drivers for it and it shows up, and also reads my CDM just fine, but the 1225 software still sees zero of the five radios. The ribbon cables have the appropriate key for the missing pins, ensuring they cannot be connected wrong, so that is not the problem. I think one of two things is happening: 1.) I bought 5 defective repeaters, which power up but somehow have a faulty interface for programming. 2.) Something is fundamentally flawed with my programming setup and I¡¯m not seeing it. Any advice on how to troubleshoot further? I¡¯m optimistic I¡¯m just overlooking something dumb I need to do for these to be read. 73, Matt, N1ZYY |
Re: antenna connectors
Steve, I use Petroleum Distillates, which is used in many different things, such as carburetor cleaner, etc.? Just soak a rag or paper towel.? That will also get the remains off of you hands. 73, Gary? W3DTN

Re: QUANTAR VHF Audio Interface...
As a Kenwood Dealer, I kinda felt like Benedict Arnold installing a Quantar for my 2 mtr repeater but I did and it works great with (of course) an RC210. (using the Telco connector and it has the wireline card of course) An added bonus is that I have AREDN Mesh at this site and am running a Promox computer with a Win7 VM. I run the Motorora RSS software and it is nice being able to monitor RX/TX performance in real time Ken At 05:12 PM 10/23/2022, you wrote: IIRC the 50pin Telco?? connector has a flat RX and TX connections that should meet your needs . IIRC the 50pin Telco? connector has a flat RX and TX connections that should meet your needs . Just about everything is available on that connector. I've had problems interfacing a Quantar to an external controller.. I did all the necessary wild card function settings, and it didn't work right. I'm in no big hurry to figure it out. But eventually I have another Quantar that I want to put a RLC controller on. The first Quantar got replaced by a TKR 750V2 and a TPL amp which is working like gangbusters. Chris WB5ITT? QUANTAR VHF Audio Interface...
Greetings Gang,
I have a question for those QUANTAR Gurus in the group. I need to feed wide band analog audio - from 50 Hz to 6 kHz into the transmitter modulator.? I've found a place just ahead of the 6 kHz splatter filter, but was hoping to find a place that didn't require me to dig into and modify the back plane board. My question: Is there a place on any of the connectors on the back of the radio where I can inject wide band analog audio? The normal restricted analog in and out on the orange connector will not work for my needs.? I need the wideband analog input. Thanks, Burt, K6OQK |

Hi all

On the subject of T-Hunts, a couple of decades ago a local club had a "fox hunt". When the first hunters showed at the hidden site, all they found was a large number of garbage bags filled with "green vegetation" and nobody to be seen. They picked up the TX and left quickly not wanting to stick around just in case. The next morning all the police found was a very clean site with no garbage bags to be seen. One of the club members was a local constable and he probably reported it after a safe delay:) Around here corn fields are often the site of "green plantations". The harvesters at this field probably had a surprise when a dozen or so cars appeared sporting a variety of antennas. Burt VE2BMQ w0rw wrote: Wow that was scary. |
Re: Repeater Horror Stories
I can't tell many of my stories as they may have had widespread coverage.? In the days when
gas was cheaper, T-hunting was more popular and large groups would participate, we found? it important to learn the topography of your area and how signals reflect and propagate.? On one hunt I had the opportunity to ride along with someone much more dedicated to the hunt, who had built a rotating beam on the top of his car that spun around at approx 2 sec to one revolution rate, and had fed a system of rheostats and signal strength to x and y inputs to a scope so that it showed a 360 degree representation of the direct and reflected signal strengths. He had become so adept with this setup, that he would always be able to be the first or at least one of the first to locate the transmitter.? In fact he could drive to a high spot and from there, simply drive to the transmitter location and do some final sniffing on foot.? The scary part of this, often police and security guards and sometimes others would take an interest in these suspicious activities and T-hunters were actually detained for questioning, sometimes at gun point. Once upon a time, I was sent to a certain site to service a repeater but I hadn't been there in a while and forgot which room in the building.? I inadvertently opened the door to the next room and since it didn't match the picture I remembered, I just shut the door and locked it and went to the right room.? In less than 10 minutes a big fat helicopter approached the site and what looked like a fully equipped swat team rappelled from several ropes to see who had blown the silent alarm.? Fortunately I was in uniform and the vehicle was marked, so they asked for ID rather than shooting me on sight.? Years later, there was an episode of 24, where the bad guys went to a site and shot some equipment and waited for a service van to approach, instantly shot the service team dead with head shots and stole the van and uniforms, and successfully breached the command center.? Fortunately that never happened (to me) in real life, but there were many suspicious circumstances over the years to help me maintain a high level of paranoia. |
