Re: WACOM Products

TxRx actually sold the Wacom line as theirs still using the WPxxx model numbers...most of those sold were black instead of the cream white Wacom used. I saw a set of WP639s two weeks ago with a TXRX tag and info on it..

I ran a PE-103 in my 6 volt 1953 Studebaker. Every time I pushed the PTT the car would briefly list a bit towards one side.

The dynamotor was in the trunk, connected with 0000 welding cable.

And yes, my very first day of Studebaker mobile I killed the battery and was a stranded motorist -- but a wiser motorist!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

I remember my old GE Pre-Prog with a dynamotor. You would have to wait until the dyno came up to speed in the trunk of the car on a cold day in upstate New York. They didn't like sub-zero weather.

Harris portable radio batteries

Does anyone have any recommendations for chargers for lithium ion batteries? ?BKB191210/ER41L2-D is the part number I have. ?They do not charge in a nmh charger.

So what charger DOES work with LI-Ion batteries?

What is Jaguar in this context? ?Is this a series of battery/chargers?

I have an old truck with a 6V system and wouldn't mind finding an old 2M or 6M radio for it.

I din't recall any problems with the instant heat tube filaments, even when used a lot.

I ran a Motorola Dispatcher in an old DKW van (6 volt system) many, many years ago.? It ran without failure for 3 years or so before I replaced the van with a new car and replaced the Dispatcher with an ITT MTS converted chassis and homebrew control head.

The 2E24 and the little pencil tubes never failed during that time.? It did take some getting used to not speaking immediately upon PTT since the radio wouldn¡¯t make RF for about 2 seconds after key-up.

It was the forklift model radio.

In conjunction with a GE Prog Line converted MTS high-band otherwise homebrew repeater and an autopatch made from an old KAAR taxicab radio, the system worked remarkably well considering the performance standards of the time!

I still get kind¡¯a nostalgic for those old systems we made out of early cast-off equipment!!

Contacting KLOVE in Belgium for Crystals, etc

Having no luck contacting them via email. It also looks like their temperature compensated crystal oscillators, fit into a GE MastrII to replace the ICOM, might be a good ideal. Cost?

Schematic needed for Zetron PageCenter 901-9573

If anyone knows where I can get a schematic or service manual for the Zetron Pagecenter model?901-9573?on site paging system please let me know. I have the UHF version. The product was also made with other names on it. It was also called a peoplefinder II. I have the user manual but it has developed some problems and I need to take a look at the schematic. I have talked with ?zetron and the guy there did not have any documentation for it. ?Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 1960 Repeater Story

Additional notes:
The 2 Tone decoder was added after the repeater left California.
Great observations guys, thanks for the comments.
The same old 2E24 is still working after 60 years.
The 6 meter whip was for a shut down receiver, but the batteries discharging was
good enough for? a shut down switch. It used 4? XX45 batteries and a big 6V battery..
i didn't have to use any external cavities because of the antenna isolation.
Yes, the machine had to be mounted up the pole to avoid any tampering.
This was a really remote location.

My first was with a prog line with homebrew power supplies in the early 70s, it is till on the air, just now with Micor and a new group servicing it."
We occasionally could get the older stuff for free when something new was installed but then we found how much work it could be to re-purpose it, but it was far more substantial a product than the offshore
toys.
I wish I had known more, there is so much more to a repeater than the typical Ham station.? It is often hard to make the new guy see this.
This is so true.? There is so much to Ham radio that the newbie won't know but they are the first to contradict.?

Re: Heatsink Compound

Actually, I don't use the Wakefield at work, because there is so much debris in it.? Rocks and dirt don't help with the thermal interface.?
Syringe applicators are so much cleaner and more precise.? I keep my toothbrush locked up with my tools and they don't get lost or
mixed up with the broken crap at work.? I wouldn't worry so much if my wife used my toothbrush as long as she didn't stick it up her butt.?
I probably wouldn't beat her up and lock her in the basement for it though.

On the subject of the toothbrush, a study was done and found a high level of bacteria and urine in any toothbrush in a typical bathroom.?
Always a good idea to rinse BEFORE using.? Something about airborne splashes from the toilet.? If you can smell it, you're breathing it.?
Just a heads- up for everyone.

Do you let other people share your toothbrush too? ? I'm the only one that uses the jars that I have contamination hasn't been an issue. I have a box of disposable plastic coffee stirring sticks that I use to do the dip, dab, and smear. They're smooth enough and stiff enough to lay down a smooth thin film, and a whole lot cheaper than the way-overpriced thermal paste spatulas from the overclocking-oriented sources. If doing a repair out at a site and need something to spread thermal compound with, I'll take a new ty-wrap and cut off the tapered part and use that to do the shmearing.

Wakefield and most others comprised of some kind of particles suspended in silicone grease will separate out if sitting for a long period of time. Even the tubes will suffer from separation so it's wise to give them a good massage before each use. Presumably that's what they base the shelf life date on - how long it takes to start to separate. As long as you give it a stir when necessary it will never really go bad - it's not like the silicone is going to go rancid or the zinc oxide is going to...well... oxidize...

Thanks Mike this info is helpful. I heard from MCC directly and the controller is flat audio, no de-emphasis so pin 5 for transmit audio but the issue is receive audio¡..Iooks like I need a circuit to remove highs as you said. Any ideas? ?73, John, W6JTB/2

Pin 2 is microphone in, and hence is gets pre-emphasized before hitting the transmitter modulator.

Pin 5 is flat audio in, and is not pre-emphasized.? It is normally used for externally generated paging tones, PL or DPL inputs.

I have a number of low power GM300 pairs in repeat service, and all use pin 2 for the repeat audio and pin 5 for the signalling.
The transmit GM300s are followed by a Henry Electronics 5w input to 75 or 100 watt output continuous duty amplifiers.

I've never seen an RC-1000.?
I assume that it has a jumper-able option for de-emphasizing the receive audio if it's connected to the receiver discriminator,
or not if it's connected to a point that is already de-emphasized.?
However you connect it make sure that there is a de-emphasis in the audio path from receiver to controller because the GM300 will pre-emphasize it..
