I'm interested too. There was a web site for this, but when I rechecked the link, it was gone. Used a PC, DOS program and a small PC board. Looked good. Have you tried a web search?? John NI0K -----Original Message-----

I called today because after hooking up the controller per instructions- Low and Behold-- the audio would not pass thru the controller. Repeater would key- but NO AUDIO. First problem was getting power on the controller. The DC plug in the controller seems to have a cold solder joint; but after jostling the plug I can get power on the controller. I also swapped pins 3 and 5 (DB25 Connector) as per the folks at Link. The repeater would work OK' but the controller had NO AFFECT. The folks at Link say that the repeater needs to be modified to work with THEIR controller. Would appreciate someone that might have more on the ball with the Vertex and the LINK; than I do to give me an idea as how to proceed. Thank You for listening to my ranting and raving; but it is a little disconcerting to buy something that is suppose to work out of the box; per the salesman. Terry KF0AO >> Ok Terry and the group sorry for the late reply. As I told Terry, my wife gave birth to our second child (baby girl) and the baby has been very sick. I havent had time to post this and I apologize to Terry and the Group for the delay. Here is the info for hooking up the VXR5000 to the ACC 96 controller. Take these pinouts and modify them for use with the Link Brand. Please just credit me as the source, (I like to see my name in lights!!) :-P Richy KB2CPW Stuff needed: 8 pin shielded male connector (to attach the controller to the repeater jack on the ACC 96) 6 or 8 wire shielded cable (for connecting the controller 8 pin connector to the repeater) 25 pin male computer connector ( this goes from the shielded controller wire to the repeater female 25 pin I/O jack 4 pin telephone style male connector with 10 inches of wire on it (you will use only the green connection) Ok here it is: ACC Controller Side (8 pin connector) (TO) Repeater Side DB-25 1. Shield wire to 8 pin connector outer metal jacket Shield wire to pin#1 2. Pin#6 on controller (TX AUDIO) Pin#3 on DB25 3. Pin#7 (RX audio) Male Phone Jack (Green wire) 4. Pin#1 (COS) Pin#8 * 5. Pin#3(S Meter Play with resistor values to adjust) Pin#8 * (Yes both of em) 6. Pin#4 (PTT) Pin#12 Jumper pins 13 and 14 on DB25 male to put repeater in external controller mode Connect the 8 pin jack to the controller, and the phone jack to the repeater. Set the dip switches 1 and 3 up and the rest down to start. Adjust the audio and your set. Set the repeater audio high and use the controller to adjust it. Here is whats going on: 13 to 14 on the db-25 put the repeater in external control mode overiding the internal controller. Pin #3 on controller jack is for the S meter, Pin 8 on the repeater is good for this since it is able to actuate the controller ( along with pin#1 on the controller (COS) and the variance in voltage is good enough to pull incoming rx signal strength, (you must figure the resistance for proper signal readback). Pin#7 on the controller is rx audio, this is pulled from the 4 pin phone jack green connection, I bet this one stumped you! Shield is a traditional hookup, connect the shield to the 8 pin connectors housing and to pin 1 on the db-25. Pin#4 on the controller is PTT this goes to pin#12 on the repeater. As you can see, its pretty straight forward, the Vertex manuals wording is the worst part as everyone get confused there. I worked this all out for you guys/gals and this should help you interface the VXR 5000 to any system. They are awesome repeaters and are cheap to purchase, the warranty is super too!! I have a Onlist.Com list dedicated to the VXR, feel free to ask some questions over there too!! Disclaimer and Notice: Please feel free to modify this to your repeater or controller needs. I assume no responsibility for how you may use this information and only offer this for experimental purposes only. Please pass this along to anyone who may need it. Link Controller @ Vertex Repeater

From: "CHRISTOPHER W. (Chris) BOONE" <cboone@...>Chris, Sorry I missed you at Dayton, had a great time also. Fred Vobbe and I talked at length about you not being there at the booth. Well maybe next year or sometime in between. I hear the Atlanta fest is a good one?? Also had a great discussion with John, KA3LAO about the Link controllers at the company booth. John, I look forward to continuing the talk later. Remember to send the file to me. I will be leaving in the morning for Las Vegas and then on to California and up the coast to Washington. I will be gone for about two weeks. May stop in Dallas area (Plano) to visit with an old buddy from the work days. I will let you know but it will probably be on or after June 01. Present plans are to fly from Seattle to Cleveland on June 01 but they are flexible so may change via DFW for a 1 or 2 day stop. I will be checking out repeaters in Las Vegas, Victorville California, Corvallis Oregon, Tacoma Washington, and points in between. You all have been forewarned! I am on the way! Any emergency traffic can be sent to #1 son Rich Jr. at rdr_jr@... until about Thursday. I should be at the home of Ralph Garono, KA8ZGM in Corvallis Or. on about 05/23 or 24. E-mail at rgarono@... . I will be at ddevlin@... in Tacoma Wa. from about 05/26/99 until 05/31/99 after that I do not know. Depends on what my boss (wife) has to say. Regular mail will be diverted and stored to give me something to do when I return home. Ha Ha! I am not taking a lap-top but will have dual band HT and mag mount antenna for the rental vehicle after arrival in Vegas. I will be checking in at home with number 2 daughter from time to time. Will post the Dayton pictures to the site after I return home. 73 and and chat after the trip. -- Richard D. Reese WA8DBW |

Here you go.....Just a comment... this is where OneList shines. I know people with old mail programs hate it, but if you're willing to accept that not everything can be expressed in words, this message is a perfect example of how file attachments help everyone's understanding of technology. S-meter circuit
Henry Clark
I recently read a post concerning hooking up an
s-meter from a MASTR II to an ACC controller. This may be redundant, but.....Is there anywhere I can get a copy of the ACC notes showing a diagram of the op-amp circuit? How 'bout it Kevin, Jeff, Chris or whomever......got one you can post? The schematic for a GE Mastr II S-Meter circuit is in the July/August 1986 ACC Notes. I figure that I can use this for the Link controllers that I have as well. Than |

Well I am back home and time to recover from the
trip. It was nice seeing all of you there. I missed many of you (Chris WB5ITT) and guess you were recovering from the many events. Hung around the Link booth a lot and got to play touchy feely with the new service monitor! I think Alan and the crew will have a fine product when it hits the market. It was great being able to connect faces to some of the e-mail. Took a few pictures and will post them to the site after I return from the West Coast . For those of you I missed, well perhaps next year.... Now off to the West Coast the first of the week after some much needed rest. -- Richard D. Reese WA8DBW |
