Re: DB224-E Purchase Sources
I would really prefer the Sinclair 4-bay because the harness is internal - one less thing to worry about ! Dave Bates On Mon, Mar 3, 2025 at 11:59?AM Tom Cole via <tomcole1=[email protected]> wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýGive them a ¡®not to exceed¡¯ price that covers you, then charge them a reasonable price if it is an easy fix. As to the other, unless you are only doing this as a hobby, there is no reason you shouldn¡¯t be able to repair something within a month.?Just my two cents Tom KI5ELV On Mar 3, 2025, at 11:56?AM, Keith via groups.io <kb8vul@...> wrote:

We have been well pleased with our Sinclair low SWR, low PIM, excellent gain. Our range from the two repeaters far exceed our expectations.

Re: Mtr2000 / 3000 power supply repair value.
My concern is two fold.? First problem is setting a fair price.? Motorola was getting 700 and something when they were still doing it and that's a silly high number.? ?But there are issues with being too low. There are 2 failure modes with these things that I have seen.? If it's past those, it's typically fried and unrepairable.? ?And dealing with hams for 30 years. I know if I attach a number then I would deal with guys raising hell I can't fix it for that number when it's not one if the two normal issues.? The other being power supplies just showing up.? When my ham buddies would find out I work on radios stuff would appear on my door step without even a note.? Then a call a month later to see if it was done.??
?
So I am trying to figure it all out.??

Re: DB224-E Purchase Sources
Yeah. And if I remember right the E is the ham split that no one bought so there aren't any floating around. At least compared to the 150-160 cut that everyone did use.? And the newer ones aren't the same as the old school ones you could get 20 plus years of service out of? |
Re: DB224-E Purchase Sources
...and many of those pricey antennas aren't even low PIM; I
see a business opportunity for someone.? The Ukrainian dipole arrays
looked promising until we saw the phasing harness.

Not any more... And last I checked, Radius GM300 RSS ain't on there.

I think?Chris is right.... There's a gaggle of these things out there, many with bad PSUs and the rest of them with bad PSUs in the making! My request is that you be "reasonable" in your fee structure, as there will already be a not-insignificant shipping charge both ways. KK4JPZHey Joe, ?
I would add on to what Larry said to say, since you are building a cross band repeater (based on the two radios you listed), I would instead buy one instead of build one.?? For the money, it's hard to beat an ICOM 2710, where you can also add a $2 DTMF board from China and control it (changing configuration remotely).?? You should be able to find the 2710 on eBay with some patience.
?
What test equipment do you already have??? You can setup the ICOM to be exactly Out=IN audio wise, and the response is very good (50-3000).?? But you need to set the deviation pots up to do this.? If you have a simple audio oscilloscope, and some other radios with discriminator audio output, you can compare input to output and do this, but it's easier with a service monitor.?? Remember though, the best test equipment in the world is no substitute for the one you have between your ears!?? You have to understand the what and the how it works to improve it!
?
So now you have a one way or two way cross band repeater.?? Good, but what do you want to do with it??? What problem are you trying to solve??? All I can say is be careful about linking it to someone else's repeater without explicit permission from the owner.?? Some repeater owners may not like or allow it.

Re: running autopatch
I use a Grandstream (brand)? "box" for my second line.? It's on my network (LAN), hence, internet. It plays well with my other devices on my LAN as well.? So, from IP to a POTS line loop start, like we had in the 1960's. Your ISP could set it up for access to the PSTN.

DB224-E Purchase Sources
Good Morning!
?
Our club received a grant for a new tower and other stuff.? We look to purchase a DB224-E antenna for our project, but doggone the prices are unbelievable!
?
I purchased a DB224-A 6 years ago for $573.20, and the shipping for the antenna, a spool of 7/8 feed line, and some other accessories totaled $222.02.
?
The current price that I find for a DB224 is anywhere from $1,280 to $1,450 and shipping for the antenna alone anywhere from $193 to $380 depending on the vendor.
?
Does anyone have any sources for "new old stock" antennas at the "old" prices or a "connection" to a vendor that will sell to a club for a better price?? We aren't in any hurry; we just want the best price.? It does need to be a brand new item for documentation within the grant program.
?
Thanks & ya'll have a blessed day! |
Re: Yaesu FT-1802 and FT-1807 mobile repeater
Short Answer : YES...
However there is no cookbook instructions for what you're asking..?
I'm sure -without exception everyone here learned the hard way...
On their own....grit, experimentation, self study, perhaps a mentor, attending repeater parties, hanging at the county radio repair shop, and late nights studying any publication even close to the subject. after working a full time job and feeding kiddies.? Even Antenna catalogs. Motorola Tech publications. Mingling at hamfests like Dayton. Mouth shut, eyes and ears open..
?
Your application, "mobile repeater" is a bit vague.. As in the "biz..." a mobile repeater can be a? repeater in the trunk that cross bands from a HT to a distant contact (another repeater or dispatcher)? that because of your location or terrain the HT does not make the trip..
Common in law enforcement like sheriff''s that were on VHF low.. and they just don't make HT's that will get you out of a holler in west Virginia and cover the entire county, but a 5 watt UHF HT will get you back to your cruiser when you repeat with 50-160 watts on VHF LOW.
?
The second "mobile repeater" is one that is "go box" in design where you can set it up and operate for a while and even then quickly disassemble and shutdown or bug out. it is designed to move easily.
?
Saying all that.. If i were you, I'd search for a 1970's ARRL FM Repeater book.. maybe Ebay, maybe a .pdf somewhere on the internet, maybe someone here has one. I lost mine in a flood about 20 years ago..? Read it and digest it.. Yes it is out of date, but the concept is valid.. Here's one:?
A quick search shows the ARRL REPEATER books- that's? a pocket phone book of repeaters by state. No technical info there..outdated and moot.
?
Here's something else to look at beside the archive here.. -

I don't think anyone will disagree with me, but there may be others here that will add to this thread.
