I have around 25-35 cabinets mostly the 6 foot ones. Most are almost new in a storage facility in Omaha along with other facilities loaded with brand new Micor parts still in boxes.?

All heading to the dumpster around the first quarter of 2023.?

Get your orders in now. I will post up here the exact dates they will be closed.?

Also have Glenayre and other style cabinets in Michigan and Ohio areas.?

Re: Occupied bandwidth - (was Windows 7 config)

Touching again on OBW before moving on, in the other discussion I asked Burt to explain the procedure he uses to measure occupied bandwidth.

Burt replied:? "For occupied bandwidth measurements I use an Anritsu MS2721B spectrum analyzer.? I set the span to 100 kHz, the RBW (Resolution Bandwidth) to 100 Hz, and VBW (Video Bandwidth) to 30 kHz, and also use peak store.? With the repeater in use that has a mix of fully quieting and noisy signals I let the analyzer sweep for 10 minutes or longer."
?
The industry procedure uses the same 100 Hz RBW and since the goal of the OBW test pattern is to simulate normal modulation, either should produce comparable results
?
Once the trace is acquired most modern analyzers will compute the 99% OBW value at the touch of a button.? This will provide a baseline record for comparison to industry expectations and for comparison when experimenting with different transmit audio processing.

Re: Micor base station cabinets available

I also have a Micor CompaStation rack available as well as a 6' full size Motorola rack (pics available). Both 2135 keyed of course

Re: Quantar Audio Interfacing and Testing

In order to keep related material in one topic, here's a repost.
?
The Quantar Instruction Manual, 68P81095E05-B, shows a number of interface configurations.? Typically, transmit audio is input through wireline #1.
This is an excellent choice.? It is a transformer isolated, balanced input that can be connected to balanced or unbalanced devices.? It comes preset to 600-ohm impedance
but can be changed to other values, including high impedance, with configuration jumpers.? A nominal level of -10 dBm will result in 60% deviation,
?
When using wireline #1 as a transmit input, PTT is configured with a wildcard command.?
Use of wirelines and wildcard functions requires that the station be equipped with a wireline interface board.? If you have a Quantar without a wireline board, your only choice for
I/O is the 6809/MRTI interface.
?
Also, since low frequency audio is not passed through the wireline input, tone coded squelch [PL/DPL] can either be encoded by the station, or - if it is desired to generate this externally?input through J17-5 which must then be configured for Aux PL Audio.
The manual is somewhat unclear about the use of J17-5 so I did some research, and I prepared the attached document for clarification.
?
Finally, there is the Gen TX data +/- input which is intended for simulcast applications.? This input should be used with caution and requires the user to provide all transmit audio processing.
With this comes the risk of unacceptable transmit bandwidth.
?
Also make sure that the reference modulation compensation is correctly aligned to enure distortion free low frequency modulation.

Hi Folks,

have been lucky enough to work with the Tiny SA Ultra Test team for much of this year.

I was able to use two Ultra units, one as a spectrum analyzer and the second as a generator. In addition I could measure the output USING an HP Spectrum Analyzer.

Regarding the frequency range:

“The maximum input frequency in ultra mode is limited to 12GHz but the usable maximum frequency is about 6GHz. The sensitivity reduces with increasing frequencies and is about 10dB lower above 2.5GHz and 25dB lower above 5.3GHz. The input correction table corrects for these reductions in sensitivity till 6GHz. Above 6GHz there is no frequency dependent correction and sensitivity drops quickly.“

The generator mode is significantly improved with output to 5.4GHz with a level 0f -19dBm.

The Ultra has a 20dB LNA which can be switched in when needed for low signal inputs.

The device has a real time clock with date, which is very handy when saving screenshots to the microSD card. (Just click the SD card icon on the screen.)

This device stands out above the competition at anywhere near the price range.

I highly recommend this as an addition to your shack!

Re: LDG dealer in Canada?

Bonjour Pierre et Gervais,

Gervais' question was that he was looking for an LDG seller in Canada so I answered as per his request. I only answered based on the original question. ?

Indeed, before buying, when the place of purchase is not important, is to check above all the final cost with the rate exchange and shipping cost. I checked recently between DXEngineering and Radioword and in some cases RW are cheaper and in others it is DX. But it is true that if we only take the average of the last few years, with free shipping with any purchase over $300, DX is often better...

Indeed, the YT is discontinued but they have other interesting LDG tuner.?

A subject quite different from the components present in a repeater ?

Notches on a bandpass duplexer?

What is the model of your duplexer so we can make sure any information provided is accurate?

I was wondering if I could get a quick sanity check/feedback on how I go about tuning Bandpass duplexers. Some recent follies have had me questioning whether I'm doing it right.

  1. Unharness all cavities
  2. Take a direction coupler/return loss bridge and quality 50 ohm load and go cavity by cavity, tuning each cavity for best return loss
  3. Normalize all cables and hook up to each individual cavity for insertion loss, adjust loops for desired insertion loss if applicable, set notches
  4. Harness up all cavities
  5. Now, after I harness up all the cavities, should I readjust each pass for best return loss? That's what I normally I do but while working on a duplexer, it was said not to touch the pass tuning after harnessing back up. But if I don't, I'm wasting insertion loss and return loss match and some performance.
  6. Set notches on each pass

What's the proper method here or what are people's thoughts on this?

Re: Sanity Check On Bandpass Duplexer Tuning

1. Unharness all cavities
That's the only one you got right ?

After unharnessing, the first thing you do is set the coupling to the desired or spec’ed insertion loss. For a bandpass cavity, each loop has to be set such that the return loss is identical in both directions (S11 and S22).

As you adjust loop coupling, the resonant frequency is going to move around, so you have to do this first, not late in the game. Also, the return loss is going to vary with coupling. The tighter the coupling, the less insertion loss there will be, and the better the return loss will be. As you loosen the coupling, the insertion loss goes up (and so does the Q), and return loss degrades. A properly-operating bandpass cavity will typically yield 20 dB of return loss when the coupling is set for 1 dB of insertion loss – you can use that as a sanity check.

At the risk of repeating myself, it is imperative that S11 and S22 be identical. If you don’t have a VNA to do this, you’re going to spend/waste a lot of time swapping cables around and going back and forth between the two loops iteratively until you get it right. So, unless you know that somebody has messed with the coupling, or if you see S11 <> S22, you may not need to even touch the coupling.

Once the coupling is set, then you tune them for the frequency of interest based on the best return loss. The harness everything back together and check that it makes spec. If everything was done correctly, and the cable lengths are correct, you should not need to do any "touching up".

6. Set notches on each pass
How would you have notches in a bandpass duplexer??!?!?
