All good- but seems like it is over complicated when you can get a single 50 or 60amp supply to do the job probably for less money than 2, 3 or 4 smaller power supplies.

I've used DOSBOX on XP up to Win11 with good luck. You must remember to have ALL files in the same file folder (directory) and follow DOS naming protocols, including length of the filenames and legal characters. And I'm not real good at computer stuff, but I did follow their online instructions.

Thank you to Tim, Jeff and Mike for your Reply's.

I have now found the problem to be a smal surface mount fuse neer the control head connector on the main board on the Filtred B+ line feeding the control head.

With this fuse replaced all the missing feature of the control heads are back working.

Re: Difficulty Programming a Maxtrac 300, 32 Channel

It's not just slower speed; all the old Motorola DOS RSS expect the serial port to be using a processor in REAL mode (actual DOS, hardware control of the serial port) not PROTECTED mode (serial port controlled by/mapped through Windows).
?
Short of a computer with a real serial port running real DOS, two things you can try:
?
1)? On the HamVOIP website is a link to instructions for setting up a Raspberry Pi to do some sort of emulation that actually works with some of the Motorola DOS programs. I found the service screens (tuning) to be flaky but I was at least able to program a GM300 and a Maxtrac with it, using my Sabrent FTDI serial-USB thingy and a RIB box/cable.
?
2) There's a new fork of DOSBox call DOSBox-X on Github? It claims to have much more granular control of processor speed and serial port control but I have no experience with it yet. It may or may not deal with the fundamental underlying problem.
?
If you just need to get frequencies into a Maxtrac, the thing on HamVOIP is probably your best bet.

Re: Difficulty Programming a Maxtrac 300, 32 Channel

Well, tried Com1, Com2 up to Com 36 and all different baud rates for each Com selected with no luck so I asked AI Gemini what was the typical baud rate for programming a maxtrac radio, below is the answer.
?

The initial communication baud rate for programming a Motorola Maxtrac radio is approximately 950 baud.

The Radio Service Software (RSS) and the radio initially communicate at this slower speed. After establishing communication, the software typically sends a message to the radio to switch to a faster baud rate, around 7600 baud, for more efficient data transfer during the programming process.

?

Well, I don't know if that is correct but I have no way to effectuate those baud rates, I guess I'm dead in the water.

You could try MoSlo, I¡¯ve used it long ago to slow down PCs programming old radios.
you can get the basic ver for free, or delux for donation to a charity for $25.
Also using a good quality USB to serial adapter such as one from Sealevel
79.00, but you can usualy find used ones on eBay. If not sealevel, be sure to use one with a FTDI chip set. Can be found on Amazon, no name for $12 or Star Tech for $33

I prefer copper on stainless parts, but aluminum is OK too.? The thing to remember is you want to use an anti-size with particles that are NOT the same as either of the surfaces that are in contact.? Heat resistance is the other variable, but not applicable here.

In reference to the Never-Seez recommendation, I have two needs, Invar threaded duplexer tuning rods, and stainless steel on stainless steel nut/bolts for tower leg clamps on towers.? I have used some Permatex Antiseize from NAPA in the past for both.

?

Amazon shows 20 different versions of Never-Seez.? Looking at just versions that come with a brush for applying, I see:

1.? NGBT-8 Silver Gray Nuclear Grade Nickel Special Anti-Seize

?

2.? Never-Seez NSBT-8 Silver Gray Regular Grade Anti-Seize

3.? Never-Seez NSBT-8N Silver Pure Nickel Special Anti-Seize

6.? Never-Seez 535-30803832 8 oz Mariners Choice Anti-Seize, Black & Gray

?

7.? Never-Seez NSSBT-16 Silver 16 High-Temperature Stainless Anti-Seize

***

Pretty sure I don't need a 2000+ degree material.? But I have no idea what Nuclear, Mariners Choice, Pure Nickel, or Regular, means.

Just want to know which of the 7 items above is best and if I need to use a different material for tuning rods vs. stainless on stainless bolts/nuts.

I would definitely look for a brand name like Loctite,
It's never failed me - I liked the copper base,
too many copy cats these days ready to take your money, Dan.

Tell the man behind the counter what the application is for,
Stainless steel hardware will gall. Kerosene was an old trick.

I had access to machines like that before I retired about 11 years ago.? Really hated to give up access to a fully equipped machine shop and scrap aluminum and stainless steel. If I could not make it someone that actually worked in that area could.

I did, but then decided that discretion was the better part of valor and resisted the temptation.
I did put some lateral pressure on it and it just didn¡¯t feel right; probably because it¡¯s Invar.
If I ever get it back in the shop again, I¡¯ll give it a try.
I've bent them back when I've had no other choice and, probably 8 times out of 10, was successful. I'd suggest that after you bend it back into what seems to be right that you run the rod out (not in) and put some Never-Seez on the threads in the area where it had been bent just in case it starts to bind on the way back in; you'll have a better chance of backing it out for further tweaking without it galling up.
