Re: MSF TX VCO issue
If the VCO output stops, that might also give you the same indication. A spectrum analyzer should tell you, or even an RF voltmeter. Your original topic stated TX VCO issue and you're still seeing

Re: Just a little "off topic "
Yes, exactly..... I did the bbs thing too at 1200 baud. Bear in mind though that was 1200 all to yourself all text, and not shared. The baycom modems were a good solution for packet on the cheap if

Re: Just a little "off topic "
I once owned a 1200 baud modem that hung off the com port. A TNC was far too expensive for me back in the 80s. From a faded memory the modem chip was called something like World Radio xxxx. It was

Re: A poll for preference. Analog or digital?
Short answer: *IT DEPENDS.* I use them all. - *Analog FM* , for it's great audio quality.? I work in noisy equipment rooms in a broadcast facility, FM is *LOUDER and more intelligible* on our
Re: Just a little "off topic "
First off how much data do you have to pass? Remember amateur packet mostly died from its heyday when everyone came to realize that a 1200 baud shared channel was the greatest thing since sliced bread

Re: MSF TX VCO issue
Hi Bob- Swapped the VCO's again, RX VCO on the TX, and vice versa. Was stable about 10 minutes until the first time the ID came up, then it unlocked, recovered, and after trying a few TX it fell out

Just a little "off topic "
Does anyone make a commercially available product, that is relatively inexpensive, packet radio node? this will be in the 160 Mhz range and used much like the amateur packet network is used, only for

Re: MSF TX VCO issue
Swap the VCOs again, align both of them, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes to see if you get the same problem. The 38uA meter reading is not critical as long as it's between about 10 and 45 and moves

Re: MSF TX VCO issue
Hi Sam! Yep, I did. I'm thinking the next step is to replace that last cap on teh interconnect board, baybe a voltage is going wonky after a few mimutes due to that. I havent looked at it yet that

Re: MSF TX VCO issue
Hey Tom! Yep, sounds like the TX VCO needs a scrub. Definitely hit both while you¡¯re at it. If the problem persists, then we can start attacking the actual circuitry of the TX VCO, or I can send you

Re: Marti
Totally agree on the spurious transmitters In the 1980¡¯s and 90¡¯s local hams had to DF at least 3 Marti¡¯s that started spurring and getting into local 2M ham repeaters. One was about 40 miles

Re: MSF TX VCO issue
Hi Sam! When this trouble started the first thing I did was clean out the VCO's. I Just swapped the TX & RX VCO's. The RX locked immediatly with the TX VCO in it, just had to peak it a little to get

Re: A poll for preference. Analog or digital?
As technologies progress, variety widens under our very wide tent of amateur radio. The "Original Digital" is, of course, CW. It's very '1' or '0' by nature & wins the range war. That said, for voice

Re: MSF TX VCO issue
Whoops, hit send too soon. Try swapping the VCOs just to see if TX will stay locked. Obviously not a permanent solution, they are different parts. But if it remains locked when you swap, then we can
