Run it off external 12v supply....the internal is a switcher...they die like that if you haven't recapped it

After about of month of running (summer/winter no difference), it kicks off.? When I reset the power switch, it flashes red briefly and goes out.? If I leave it off overnight, I can come back in the morning, turn it on and work for another month...? Really????? How does one trouble shoot this???
