If your coordinator is doing his job, there won’t be another repeater close enough in frequency to cause a need for different tones. We run 146.67, 146.700, 146.76, and 146.82, all within a 10 mile radius, all using the same tone, with no issues. All repeaters in our area use the same tone, those west of us use another, same with north, east, and south.

Normally, your coordinator will assign a tone frequency, usually the same tone for every other repeater in the area.
Never heard of this... we intentionally run different tone frequencies from adjacent repeaters near the same freq. Running the same is asking for mobiles to bring up both when on high spots or during openings.
Most clubs/orgs do run the same across their own repeaters through.
Have fun,
