Nearly all of the VHF Sensicon "A" Receivers I ran across back in the 1970's were the ones that had five pipes in the front end. We did have one Receiver in a base station at our college that had six pipes - I think that was the only one of those that I've ever seen. The ones with five pipes still worked excellent for Repeaters using a 600-kHz split. I remember we always needed to add something like 2.2 pf capacitors across each pipe, to get them to tune to 146-MHz frequencies. Even after adding capacitance, sometimes the covers wouldn't go back on the pipes, since the tuning rods stuck out the top of the pipes.
