I've heard this one before... as if the J antenna somehow is uniquely susceptible to such circumstances.? The J-Poles aren't without their issues, but neither are other designs including the good ol' ground plane radial design.
Probably better worded as "Any metal structure(s) in the near-field of any efficient antenna may affect tuning, pattern and overall performance."
