I got a call back from Zetron and they were of no help, other than telling me
what I already knew...
The manual schematic tells me that it uses a MAX232 chip, and that DE9 pins
pins 1 and 3 are outputs and pins 2 and 4 are inputs, and both pin 5
and 9 are ground. I received a private message that told me that the modem
cable pinout is this:
9 pin???? 25 pin
1? black? 20
2? red???? 8
3? green? 2
4? white?? 3
I have two spare controllers on the bench and? thanks to that? plus Tom's
and Jeff's reply I'm able to get it to do this on power-up:

But neither responds to anything from the keyboard.
I found a comment on another web site that Zetron had a software product
called Multibase, and that the manual for that had the info on communicating
with the units using a dumb terminal.? Anybody have a Multibase manual on
their shelf?? Or a PDF on their hard drive?
I have a PDF of the Model 42 manual if anybody needs it.?
