Re: weird interference, part2
An SDR connected to a laptop might also work OK.? At one time, AirSpy had a wide sweep "sort'a" spectrum analyzer.? I don't know if it's still around the Internet. Dave - W?LEV On Sat, May 10, 2025 at 4:58?PM bsneed1 via <bsneed1=[email protected]> wrote:

Thanks for that info. I will study if there is a connection. I was actually wondering if this stuff might be CasA of CygA scintillation. ? See: Tom On Sat, May 10, 2025, 12:13 PM Thomas Ashcraft via groups.io <ashcraft= |

Re: weird interference, part2
While the RFI is "on" for less than 2-minutes each burst, from your antenna location, it should be possible to at least determine the source direction using a battery-powered AM radio.? Of course, you might, from home, determine the full frequency extent of the RFI before searching.? There may be frequencies where it is stronger and, therefore, easier to determine the direction of the RFI source. Dave - W?LEV? weird interference, part2
Because I don't turn on the "jove" radio each day I don't have a continuous daily record but here's what I've found:
5/9 RFI 2154:30-:55
5/8 None
5/6 RFI 2140-2142
5/5 None
5/4 None
5/3 2132:50-2133:15
5/2 None
4/28 None
4/27 2154:40-2157:30
4/26 22:14-22:18
4/24 None
4/23 None
4/22 None
4/21 None
4/20 2231:30-2232:30
?
The pattern of RFI is not constant but there is always a "wide" signal and then "narrow" ones.
As Duane said, "Weird"...but interesting....John and Duane frequently "hear" stuff that I don't so they may have RFI for my days of None....bill....

Re: weird interference/noise
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Duane,
This is kind of neat. Looks to me like the broadband noise is throwing the front end amplifier into saturation, causing it to go non-linear -- meaning that instead of amplifying faithfully, it has become a signal mixer.? It appears that the strong signals at ~19 & ~17 MHz are being mixed with each other and with the ROTHR sweepers, and with their aliases, and then mixed with some of those products to produce the chicken track looking artifacts every 1.5 MHz or so. -- Dave On 5/9/25 20:21, Duane via groups.io wrote: Howdy, caught some weird noise and/ or interference today. |

? ? ? I sometimes see something similar in the late afternoon. Right or wrong, I have attributed this to overload RFI. Interested in other opinions? John On Friday, May 9, 2025, 8:21 PM, Duane via groups.io <duane919@...> wrote:
