Re: weird interference, part2

While the RFI is "on" for less than 2-minutes each burst, from your antenna location, it should be possible to at least determine the source direction using a battery-powered AM radio.? Of course, you might, from home, determine the full frequency extent of the RFI before searching.? There may be frequencies where it is stronger and, therefore, easier to determine the direction of the RFI source.

The pattern of RFI is not constant but there is always a "wide" signal and then "narrow" ones.
As Duane said, "Weird"...but interesting....John and Duane frequently "hear" stuff that I don't so they may have RFI for my days of None....bill....

Re: weird interference/noise

Good morning everyone...
Daune, I saw the same "stuff" here in Maine yesterday but, as John mentioned, this was not the first time and always in the late afternoon.

Hi Duane,

This is kind of neat.

Looks to me like the broadband noise is throwing the front end amplifier into saturation, causing it to go non-linear -- meaning that instead of amplifying faithfully, it has become a signal mixer.? It appears that the strong signals at ~19 & ~17 MHz are being mixed with each other and with the ROTHR sweepers, and with their aliases, and then mixed with some of those products to produce the chicken track looking artifacts every 1.5 MHz or so.

Duane:
? ? ? I sometimes see something similar in the late afternoon. Right or wrong, I have attributed this to overload RFI. Interested in other opinions?

Thanks for the head's up, Tom.? Too much lightning in the area to see anything, I am afraid.
