Re: New dual dipole array in Maryland
Thanks Carl!? Thanks Sabine!? Sabine, thank you for the tips on automation, we¡¯ll give those options a go.? I¡¯ll try to post a picture of the setup soon. ? We went with the standard setup in the kit instructions, east/west orientation.? Location is a small town in a more rural part of Maryland called Finksburg.? We also plan to try activating the server function in RSS in case folks want to observe remotely. Tyson On Thu, Apr 3, 2025 at 10:11?AM Sabine Cremer via <sc=[email protected]> wrote:

You don't have to apologize! That's exactly the right attitude!
These overload conditions occur in most ADCs when the magnitude exceeds 0 dBm. Usually, it's not even individual narrowband signals that trigger this, but rather the sum of several high-field signals when there's a lot of power across the entire spectrum, as was the case during the contest. The ADC could certainly be damaged at some point, but I hope the hardware contains mitigating measures.

Tyson,

that really looks great!

It appears that there is a file size limit at 2 GB. Jim describes one way to automatically record data here ("Run Timed Observation" from the "File" menue):
?
Another way is "File/Run From Schedule File". You'll find the description of the .skd file in RSS' Help file.

Do you have a photo of your new location/antenna?

New dual dipole array in Maryland
Hi all, Jack Ganssle and I were able to setup a dual dipole kit about an hour northeast from the Mills Cross Array historical site, far enough from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore for reduced interference. ? Attached is a shot of a recent observation.? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. We ran into a file size limit in Radio Sky Spectrograph with an initial dataset.? The file was 2GB total. What is the file size limit and is there a way to automate stop/start for file creation in RSS? Thanks so much! Tyson |
