I appreciate those of you who have subscribed to our list here on groups.io. I sent out 47 invitations to the members we had on Rootsweb. So far we only have 8 members here but I am hoping some more will join us. There were quite a few email bounces (user unknown) so we likely had some members who have passed away. The Times-Picayune New Orleans, LA Apr. 29 to May 1, 2020 Marian Madlyn Valentine Rabb was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 4, 1930 to the union of the late Aaron G. Valentine and Evelyn Davis Valentine. Marian was called to her heavenly home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 22, 2020 while at home in the company of her son Derek N. Rabb and family. She was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and a Christian who accepted Christ at an early age and continued to be faithful until her death. Marian joined Philips Memorial United Methodist Church at childhood and in later years served on the usher board. Marian attended Danneel Elementary School and McDonough 35 High School. After graduating in 1947, she attended New York University and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Master of Arts degree in Education. While attending New York University, Marian became a member of the historical Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. After graduating from college and graduate school Marian devoted 31 years as a Teacher and then Principal to educate, mentor, motivate and lead students and teachers to be the Best. These devotions were to the students and faculty of Alfred C. Priestley Junior High as a teacher, Booker T. Washington Senior High School as a teacher, Gateway Senior High School as a Principal, and Sophie B. Wright Junior High as a Principal. They were all touched by her teaching and innovative administrative policies on effectively managing a successful school. Marian believed that every student had a right to a quality education and that every teacher must be continuously trained to be "at the top of their game" in order to prepare their students for the next level of life. Marian loved her family dearly and enjoyed the family holiday events and gatherings. She also loved going out with her husband and close friends to hear live music. Marian and her husband also enjoyed attending various Carnival Balls throughout the years. Also, for those who knew her well, knew that she never cut her tongue and would speak her mind, but for the betterment of the person or situation! Marian's favorite football team of all--THE SAINTS!!! She enjoyed being a season ticket holder until her health was an issue. Marian was a true diehard Saints Fan!!! Marian also had a very close relationship with her son whom she loved dearly and continued to provide guidance and lessons on life. The last six years of Marian's life were spent living with her beloved son due to a fall, but those last six years her son made sure she continued living her best life to the fullest! Also, her wonderful caregivers Eula Hickman and Tina Perry cared for her and kept her looking good, because Marian was always a sharp dresser! She is preceded in death by her loving husband and soulmate Nelson Rabb, loving parents Aaron G. Valentine and Evelyn Davis Valentine, her brother David Valentine and sister Carrie M. Russell. She was born on August 20, 1932, in Drew County, to the late J. O. Cater and Gertrude Brown Cater. She was the widow of Grover Rabb, retired from Burlington Industries and was of the Assembly of God faith. She attended Oak Grove Assembly of God Church. Betty was strong in her Christian faith, a daily prayer warrior, praying countless hours for her family and friends, a woman of God, serving him through touching others with her caring and giving spirits. She read and studied the Bible faithfully using it to witness to her family and friends. When you visited her at home, you felt so welcome and no one ever left without her praying for you. She was known for her delicious homemade rolls that she shared with many. Her memory will live on in our hearts forever. Our loss is heaven’s gain. We will miss you, but we know that you have now received Heaven’s reward. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Marter; and two brothers, Junior Cater and Stanley Cater. Shelby Star Shelby, NC Apr. 21, 2020 SHELBY – Jerry Dean Rabb, 82, died Saturday, April 18, 2020, at Wendover Hospice House. A native of Shelby, NC, he was the son of the late Clarence Emmitt Rabb and Dovie Pauline Rabb. Jerry served in the Army, and was a graduate of The Ringling School of Art Sarasota Florida. He retired from Belk's after 30 years of sales and management, and was a member of New Bethel Church of Shelby. He was remembered fondly by everyone who he encountered at Belk's or A&P. Jerry was s devoted family man to say the least. He and his wife Hollis worked as a team in all things, throughout life. Together, they made hundreds of quilts over the years, and all were known for their originality, color, workmanship, and loving care. Jerry is remembered by his family and friends for his generosity, sense of humor, love, and kindness. He was always kindhearted ever after Alzheimer's was present for decades. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Hollis Chenery Rabb. She is survived by her children, Rusty Rabb and wife Lori of Monticello, AR., Judy Holley and husband Tim of Cartersville, GA , and Ward Rabb and wife Shelly of Monticello, AR. She is also survived by her pride and joy of 6 grandchildren: Kaycee Rountree and husband Timothy of Sunnyvale, TX, Leah Bryant and husband Chris of Monticello, AR, Tyler Holley of Cartersville, GA, Michael Rabb and wife Aly of Monticello, AR, Dillon Rabb and wife Sarah of Ft. Smith, AR. and Matt Holley of Cartersville, GA. They called her MeMe and she loved to say, "Not everybody can brag like I can about having beautiful grandkids!" She loved teaching them to play poker, swimming in the ocean with them in the Bahamas, playing in the snow at Keystone, and dancing with them at their weddings. She was spunky and full of life! Her crown of glory was her 8 great-grandchildren: Harper Ann, Asher Thomas, Paxton Thomas, Beau Kelly, Norah Mae, Levi Matthew, Cleo Marie, and Josie Kay (her namesake). Linda's only surviving sister, Jerry May, lived in Acworth with her. She is also survived by her brother, Glenn Harper of Ferriday, LA. Linda was a force to be reckoned with throughout her life. She was an accomplished seamstress and at the age of 17 made her own wedding dress. She was employed by numerous sewing factories where she quickly advanced from the sewing floor to supervision to even plant manager. She was well known for her exceptional cooking, which led to her owning two restaurants and a catering business. Everyone looked for her dishes at the church potlucks and some deacons were known to sneak a bowl of her chicken and dumplings and gumbo before they hit the buffet tables. Her last endeavor led to her most accomplished and favorite career of all- becoming a sales associate with AFLAC. She began as an agent, but of course, that wasn't good enough. In 2005, Linda earned the "Georgia's Aflac New Associate of the Year." She worked her way up to become a District Sales Coordinator. She loved training new associates to help them become the best. Linda was featured in a book called, "Make More, Worry Less" by: Wes Moss, with a chapter about her titled: "The Compound Income Effect- Linda Rabb (from Steak n Shake to Aflac)." After her retirement in 2014, she put all her efforts into her two favorite passions, church missions and her flower garden. She devoted all her mornings to working in the Pass-It-On Clothing Ministry of Lost Mountain Baptist Church and donating goods to the local schools sponsored by the church. She loved people and loved serving people. Her yard would rival any botanical garden in the area. She could name almost any plant, flower, or bird from memory. For the past 9 years, she has hosted a Garden Party for her Active Adult Group from the church and for her neighborhood. There will be a "Walk Through Her Garden" time on Friday, May 15, 2020 from 4pm-6pm at her home. The eldest of nine, Mildred was committed to protecting and nurturing others. After completing her education in Fairfield County Schools in Winnsboro, S.C. this love of helping others led her to Brooklyn, N.Y. where she began working in childcare. Mildred met Joseph W. Pete, of Monticello, S.C., and the two were united in holy matrimony on April 13, 1958. To this union, they were blessed with three children, Thurman (Audrey-deceased), Felicia (Robert - deceased), and Anita. Mildred continued to care for others, working in adult healthcare until her retirement in 1999. Mildred had a natural love for people, conversation, good music, and laughter. There was seldom a person she encountered that she would not spend at least thirty minutes in conversation with. In her later years, Mildred focused on loving her family, spending time with her grandchildren, and watching her favorite show, "The Young and the Restless." After many years of labor and toil, Mildred transitioned to her Heavenly Home on May 2, 2020. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son Thurman Pete, two devoted daughters Felicia Wriston and Anita Pete, six grandchildren: Sharise, Brandon, and Jasmine Wriston, NyAisha Pete, Andre Pete, and Aaron Porter; two beloved sisters; Lorraine Cauthen (Harold), Ernestine Jenkins (Lawrence); one adored brother, Willie Earl Rabb (Doris); a much loved cousin Evelyn Armour; two aunts, Margaret and Emma (Chambers); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Pete, one grandson, Thurman Pete, Jr., one son-in-law, Robert Wriston, and one daughter-in-law, Audrey Pete. Times-Picayune New Orleans, LA June 13 to June 14, 2020 Geraldine Rabb Perkins peacefully passed on to the next stage on June 6, 2020. She was born in Woodville, Mississippi to the late James E. and Beulah T. Rabb. She was preceded in death by her husband, US Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Harang J. Perkins; her sibling Lee G. Rabb; her brother-in-law Joseph Wesley; and her sister-in-law Letetia Nelson. She leaves behind her daughters Lisa C. Perkins Pankey (Troy Pankey), Jill T. Perkins (John S. Davis), Kwame M. Perkins, Tristan R. Perkins, Enola S. Perkins (NOPD Officer Randolph Daniel), and Valerie Hesse; grandchildren Tristan, Alexandra, Jalen, Ava, and RJ; and great-grandson Preston James "Bear". She is survived by her siblings, James Rabb (Janice), Alvin Rabb (Linda), Cynthia Rabb Adams (Lenard), Shirley Rabb-Wesley and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her life-long friend Henry P. Scie. She will be missed by her neighbors Rob, Sofia, Kim, and Andy as well Johnnie Jones and the congregation of Shy Temple (Atlanta, GA) of which she was a member. Geraldine also leaves behind numerous friends that she has met along the way. Geraldine always said she only had to do two things in life, and she did them both, but she did so much more. Geraldine lived a long and fulfilling life. She traveled and experienced different people and places as a military spouse and on her own. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, attended Booker T. Washington Nursing School, Olympia Community College (WA), St. Mary's Dominican College, and Loyola University. She was always curious, embraced learning, and loved a good fight – always ready for battle, be it physical or mental. She could sit with you and learn your entire life story and offer comfort and wise words to help you know what you needed to do next and prepare you for life. She loved a good meal and a good drink - sharing good food with family and friends. Geraldine embodied resiliency and active caring. She enjoyed all kinds of music, passing this on to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. She was a first responder at both the Audubon Zoological Institute and the Aquarium of the Americas. At Harrah's Casino, Geraldine was a VIP greeter and brought the best of New Orleans to visitors. She also was a volunteer for St. Mary's Academy, Kipp Academy, and Hawthorne Elementary (Atlanta, GA). Geraldine will never be forgotten. She was and will always be a true original. She will be remembered for her love of life and quick wit. The family would like to thank the staff of Touro Infirmary, especially 3rd floor ICU, M8, the Cancer Treatment Center, and Touro at Home, for their support. They also appreciate the kindness and care of Dr. Scott Sonnier, Dr. Christopher Lege, Dr. Sudhanva Wadgaonkar, Dr. John Freiburg, and all their office staff. Shelby Star Shelby, NC June 21, 2020 SHELBY- Carol Geraldine Griffin Rabb, age 82, died Friday, June 19, 2020 at Hospice Wendover. Born in Cleveland County on December 25, 1937, she was the daughter of the late William "Bill" Griffin and Ethel Harris Griffin. She was a long time member of New Bethel Church of Shelby where she taught Sunday school, served on the church board for more than 20 years and was a member of the Jolly Elders as well as the Red Hat society. She was retired from Belk's where she worked in the Men's Department. Carol's life revolved around her church life. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Gerald Rabb and her sister Annie Argie Barker. Carol is survived by her three children; Wanda Fischbach and husband Fred of Boiling Springs Keith Rabb and wife Lori of Shelby, and Gwen Ledford and husband Mike of Boiling Springs, seven grandchildren; Sajid Khan (Jackie), Mariam Lackey (Cody), Yasmeen Khan, Tyler Rabb, Holly Rabb, Caleb Smith, and Cody Smith as well as seven great-grandchildren. Waterloo Region Record Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jul. 28, 2020 Elizabeth Margaret Rabb (nee Roscoe) on May 23rd, in her 94th year at Clair Hills Retirement Home, Waterloo. Born in Hespeler, Ontario, on September 22, 1926, she was a long time resident of Uptown Waterloo. She worked in the Dominion Woolen Mill in Hespeler during World War 11 and later on was an employee of Buck Animal Hospital in Waterloo. Elizabeth was the only child of William Roscoe and Sylvia Roscoe (nee Cutting) of Hespeler, Ontario She is prediseased by her husband Bruce Rabb, her mother-in-law, Evelyn Rabb (Schiedel), her mother Sylvia Roscoe, (Cutting) and her father William Roscoe. She is survived by her daughter Katherine Clark (NIgel Clark) of Oakville. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in the autumn.

Grand Rapids Press Grand Rapids, MI Aug. 7 to Aug. 8, 2020 Rabb, Annette 76, passed away from natural causes at her home in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 5, 2020. Annette grew up in Lapeer, Michigan and lived many of her adult years in Chicago, Illinois and San Jose, California, working in accounting/bookkeeping. She moved to Grand Rapids in the late 1990s and enjoyed being close to family, including her parents. Annette attended Ascension Lutheran Church in Kentwood, Michigan since moving to Grand Rapids and was a very active member of the church. Annette was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Gloria Rabb, brothers Kirk Rabb and Richard Rabb and her sister, Jane. She is survived by her sister, Marianne Holder, brothers Robert Rabb (Diane Rabb) and George Rabb (Debbie Rabb), three nieces, five nephews and many grand nieces and nephews. Poughkeepsie Journal Poughkeepsie, NY Gertrude "Trudy" Rabb East Fishkill - Gertrude "Trudy" Rabb, 100, died peacefully on August 8, 2020 at the Wingate at Dutchess. Born in Augsburg, Germany on May 20, 1920, she was the daughter of Alfred and Fanny (Gerngross) Bernheimer. She came to the United States in 1934. Trudy worked for Burnham Corp in Irvington for many years, and later worked for Abbott House in Irvington for 10 years until her retirement in 1982. She was the past president of the Dobbs Ferry Women's Club and the Dobbs Ferry Auxiliary where she volunteered. Before and after retiring, she spent many hours crocheting and knitting for many charities. On December 20, 1946 in New York City, Trudy married Bert Rabb who predeceased her on April 19, 1985. She was also predeceased by her son, Alan Rabb; and her son-in-law, Robert Logan. Trudy is survived by her daughter, Carol Logan; her grandchildren, Alan (Jeanette) Connolly, Stephanie (James) Gray, Jonathan Rabb, Craig (Jill) Logan, Kathleen (Jeremy) Duke, and Joshua (Lauren) Rabb; and fourteen great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11am at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Private burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. Karen Corns Rabb, 72, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, August 22, 2020 Karen was born in High Point, NC on July 28, 1948, daughter of the late James Sanford and Nellie Wright Corns. She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Speech Therapy. She was a loving wife, mother, and “Danny” (grandmother) and a longtime member of Bay Leaf Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Banister Rabb. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Amy Howell and husband Chris of Raleigh; grandchildren, Shelby and Beckham; her son, Alex Rabb and wife Kym Gowdy of Delaware, OH; grandson, Aiden; her son, Mitch Rabb and wife Tiffany of Knoxville, TN; her brother, Jerry Corns of High Point, NC; nephew, James; and niece, Kristian. She will be dearly missed by her children Wanda White, Brock (Tammy) Shannon, Mark Shannon, Greg (Brenda) Shannon, and Jeff (Kim) Shannon, Teri-Lin (Kevin Parson) Mulholland, as well as stepson Terry (Fran) Dennis. Shirley was the loving grandmother of Jared (Aarika), Joshua (Amanda), Samantha (Jeremy), Hugh (Sasha), Faith, Emily, Beth, Katherine, Drew, Lindsay (Alex Popescu), Kara, Greg (Jen), Chris, Tom, Michael, Katrina, Sonja, and Sydney. 'GG' to Aiden and Abigail, Sophia and Amelia, Karynna, Alixander, and Adley, Shirley was also eagerly anticipating the birth of two new great-grandbabies. Many nieces and nephews morn the loss of their Aunt Shirley. She was the last surviving member of her large family. She was only 4 years of age when her father died and her mother was left to raise nine children through the depression and WWII. Shirley was predeceased by her parents William and Nellie (MacLean) Rabb as well as her siblings Bill (Phyllis) Rabb, Mac (Jean) Rabb, Gordon (Corry) Rabb, Allan (Doris) Rabb, Abbie (Charlie) McCallister, Helen (Chuck) Daniel, Phyllis (Al Arnett), (Jack) Blacker, Joan (Lloyd) Greenwood. She was also predeceased by Harold's siblings Ralph (Janet) and Chester (Marjory) Shannon, Blanche (Ray) Ash, Isobel (Scotty) MacLean, and Verna (John) Kane. Also predeceased in death by Ernie's siblings Goldora (Bob) Simmons, Della McGee, Myrtle Harper, Ruby Morgan, Ramona Dick, Bernice (Herman) Casemore, Beulah, Stanley, Clayton, Russell, Earl, Raymond, Kenneth, and Dunnevan Dennis. Her son-in-law Gary White and several nieces and nephews also predeceased her. Mom was a lady of great faith, was very giving and a lifelong volunteer. She came from a long line of community minded souls and always had a ready smile and a cheerful word despite her own tribulations. She retired in 1992 and moved to Melbourne, Florida. She returned to Charleston to spend many wonderful years surrounded by her family and friends. She was a member of St. Andrew's Parish Church and enjoyed attending the Elks Club and the Rifle Club with Granddaddy. She found joy in good times spent with those she loved. Our beloved matriarch taught us all how to cook with love, host with ease, give with passion, shop for days, and love unconditionally. She enjoyed the fine things in life - sparkles, spirits, and fur - and treasured the most important - family, friendship, and faith. Life was her party and she was always dressed to impress and ready to dance. Christmas was her favorite holiday and being together was of ultimate importance. She lost her partner, Jerry, just five months ago. This Christmas, there is peace in knowing they are united. Known to our family as "Grandmommy," Ann is survived by her two daughters; Allison Miles Norton, and Jeanne Rabb Livingston (Bubba) both of Charleston, SC; four grandchildren, Tyler Norton, Britton Tucker (Harper), Cal Livingston (Mandy) and Trey Livingston (Sarah) and five great-grandchildren. Rabb, born August 1st, 1927, went home to be with the Lord on January 14th, 2021 after a brave and extended battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was preceded in death by his father Eavo Rabb, mother Mary Rabb, sister Margaret Watkins Crawford, brother Rev. Jesse B. Watkins and sister Gladys Rabb Varner. Robert was a native of Jacksonville, Florida where he attended Robert E. Lee High School. He felt called to serve his country during World War II, and enlisted at the age of seventeen in the Merchant Marines. He served faithfully until his honorable discharge in 1957. He also served and was honorably discharged from the United States Army. Robert's career choice was a Locomotive Engineer with CSX Railroad, where he worked for 39 years before retiring in 1989. Robert is survived by his wife Sylvia Sasser Rabb. They were married in 1957, and enjoyed 63 years together traveling, attending socials with friends, and life on the river. Upon their move to St. Johns County, Florida in 1974 they joined Switzerland Community Church where they faithfully served their Lord in many roles and made abiding friendships that have stood the test of time. He is also survived by his son, Randy Rabb and wife Julie, and grandchildren Jonathan and Lindsey Rabb. His extended family of nieces and nephews will remember him fondly. Robert's celebration of life will be Monday, January 18th at 11:00 am at Switzerland Community Church with Rev. Wesley Slough officiating. Family will receive friends at 10:00 am at the church before the service. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park at 3:00 pm with Military Honors bestowed.
