Obit of Robert L. Rabb (FL)


 



Robert L. Rabb, born August 1st, 1927, went home to be with the Lord on January 14th, 2021 after a brave and extended battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was preceded in death by his father Eavo Rabb, mother Mary Rabb, sister Margaret Watkins Crawford, brother Rev. Jesse B. Watkins and sister Gladys Rabb Varner.
Robert was a native of Jacksonville, Florida where he attended Robert E. Lee High School. He felt called to serve his country during World War II, and enlisted at the age of seventeen in the Merchant Marines. He served faithfully until his honorable discharge in 1957. He also served and was honorably discharged from the United States Army. Robert's career choice was a Locomotive Engineer with CSX Railroad, where he worked for 39 years before retiring in 1989.
Robert is survived by his wife Sylvia Sasser Rabb. They were married in 1957, and enjoyed 63 years together traveling, attending socials with friends, and life on the river. Upon their move to St. Johns County, Florida in 1974 they joined Switzerland Community Church where they faithfully served their Lord in many roles and made abiding friendships that have stood the test of time. He is also survived by his son, Randy Rabb and wife Julie, and grandchildren Jonathan and Lindsey Rabb. His extended family of nieces and nephews will remember him fondly.
Robert's celebration of life will be Monday, January 18th at 11:00 am at Switzerland Community Church with Rev. Wesley Slough officiating. Family will receive friends at 10:00 am at the church before the service. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park at 3:00 pm with Military Honors bestowed.
