In a mere vxo for ham radio, well at least per W1FB experiments (or someone's he wrote about) - a low Q choke in series with a very high Q crystal is a virtue. Also, maybe, if the quartz crystal is used properly in a high performance radar, possibly a low Q inductance here might be okay.?

Jim Kortge pulled out the stops to design a wider tuning vxo, review his work to see if he also adds a tiny RF choke here.?

I didn't do the experiment myself, not sure how much tuning range a little rf choke adds versus a good toroid inductor.?
