I'll probably be banished for this, but in a pinch (pun intended) I've used needle nose pliers and hand crimped jst/dupont type connectors.? I wouldn't do it for a connector that sees repeated use but for connections that are only going to be made/broken a few times it worked good enough.? My plan was always to acquire a proper crimper and redo my connections but something shiny distracted me and I forgot all about it.? This is more of a confession than a recommendation.? Do not listen to me.? Do not do this.
