MI QRP Weekly Zoom Chat

开云体育

We had ten folks join the MI QRP Zoom Chat on 13 February. Please join us Thursday February 20 (and every Thursday) at 4PM Eastern for the Michigan QRP Club weekly QRP Chat where the main topics will be QRP and other ham interests. New hams are encouraged to participate and ask questions. It's fun, it's easy, and it's free. You only need a computer, a smart phone, or a tablet that can connect to the Internet. OR if you can't be close to any of those you can join by audio with any standard phone. Just follow the directions below. No software needs be loaded or installed. Anyone can join and non members are welcome. Details are here:

The topic for Thursday, 20 February will be Stuart M0SGV leading a discussion on a prisoner of war radio.

Pete WK8S
Ed AB8DF
Ernie W3ETE
Tom WW8LA
Casey KC9IH
Larry AC8YE
Rick K8BMA
Dave N8SBE
Stuart M0SGV
Yvon AE7YD

Pete asked the question. What do you want out of the these zoom meetings?

Dave wants to know what is on everybody’s work bench? What is everybody is doing with their radios? What radios we are we all are using?

Larry wants to know about equipment and building techniques.

Tom wanted to know how to join the group. He is half a builder and half an operator. He enjoys the group interactions.

Rick is a? QRPer. He is interested in finding out what other people are doing. He likes knowing what is new in the qrp world and the group seems to know.

Stuart wants to know about the various kits that are around. He does some home brew and experiments.

Yvon enjoy the group interactions. He wants more discussions on portable operations not just POTA.

Ernie enjoys the interactions. He always comes away with something new to investigate. The group has an extensive knowledge base.

Casey wants to know what is everyone else is doing. He appreciates discussions on different types of radios. He would like to see more formal presentations.

Dave made the observation that just random chatting is not a good in the long term. It gets repetative and folks loose interest and stop showing up. He would like to see more focus on digital stuff. He suggested recording the Zoom chats and then creating a Youtube channel to allow folks to be able to watch in non real time. Everyone thought it was a great idea. Need someone to do it.

Ed thought that having two different zoom meetings one technical and one social. Perhaps a Saturday morning coffee clutch Zoom meeting in addition to the Thursday Zoom chat.

The agenda for the 20 February Zoom chat will Be:

  1. Pete to do a short introduction and acknowledge any new folks to the Zoom chat.
  2. Stuart M0SGV will lead a discussion of a prisoner of war radio
  3. After the discussion on the prisoner of war radio has completed, there will be an open forum.

During the open forum anyone can take the floor. We will go one by one until all have had a chance to have the floor. Files, pictures and presentations can be shared if you have any. Please try to stay muted when someone has the floor.

Thanks
Ed

Hello all: The weekly 80M QRP Fox Hunt will be held tonight 0200 to 0330Z Friday. Two QRP foxes, W2LJ, LARRY, NJ and K4BAI, JOHN, GA will be calling CQ between 3550 and 3570 kHz. 5W maximum power for foxes and hounds. Exchange for each is : RST, SPC*, Name, Power.

There are also 40M QRP Fox Hunts on Tuesday evenings local date at same times and the frequency range is 7030 to 7050 kHz.

In the summers, there is a summer fox hunt schedule on 20M, 14050-14070.

Anyone who can run QRP CW at 5W or below is welcome to join it.

73/72, John, K4BAI.

*SPC means state, province, or DX country.

Same problem here... Band conditions were very bad. 20 meters was bad also, could only get about 1000 miles on cw. Will keep listening... NL7QT?

Ed,
I saw the RBN showing you calling CQ and tried to make contact, but could not hear you at all and clearly you did not hear me. ? Thank you for continuing to do these sessions, fun for old and new!

ARS Monthly Spartan Sprint Tonight!

Monday evening QRP Fun!

Overview & Rule Summary

FOR THE ADVENTURE RADIO SOCIETY

SPARTAN SPRINT

?

What is an ARS Spartan Sprint and how can I participate?

The Adventure Radio Society Spartan Sprint is a two hour casual QRP contest.?

It is held on the first Monday of every month to encourage QRP operators to get on and go to somewhere

near the standard QRP frequencies on the 80-40-20-15-10 Meter bands for an evening of fun.?

It is open to all QRP CW operators – there is not any membership requirement.??

Operating portable and/or using lightweight minimalist (spartan) equipment is encouraged, but is not required.

THE CONTEST PERIOD FOR EACH TIME ZONE IS:

EASTERN 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Local.

CENTRAL 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Local

MOUNTAIN 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Local

PACIFIC 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Local

Does?not?shift for DST – This event is always at these Local Times

(UTC for STANDARD TIME : 0100Z to 0300Z)

(UTC for DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME : 0000Z to 0200Z)

?

POWER OUTPUT

To keep with its minimalist theme, Maximum Spartan Sprint power output is 5 watts.

?

However, a Spartan Sprint participant running 5 watts who is submitting

?results is allowed to work a non-QRP station.??That contact will count.

?

(A Non-QRP station is not permitted to submit results for this QRP event.)

?

?

OPERATION

We operate CW on 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters, around standard QRP frequencies.

Call???CQ SP?????? Or listen for calling stations.

?

?

EXCHANGE

- Your Call Sign
- Your State or Province
- Your Power output

?

SCORING

Scoring is somewhat unique - score is calculated based on?[Number of Contacts] / [Station Weight].

Working the same station on a different band counts as another contact.

The weight of your station consists of everything except your antenna and feed line.

If your station includes your home-based rig, antenna tuner, DC power supply, heavy paddle or bug - obviously

you are not lightweight - simply report your weight as 30 lbs. (That is the default weight for the Tubby division.)

?

?

REPORTING
To report your results, go to?

, and select the?‘ARS Spartan Sprint’?(on the Left side).

You will enter your?[Station Weight]?and the?[Number of Contacts]?that you made.

Soapbox comments may include your power, equipment, antennas, band conditions, outdoor experiences,

and anything else you wish to comment on.

Scores will be Automatically Calculated

Reports will be available for both the Skinny (lightweight) and Tubby (heavyweight) entrants.

?

Looking forward to working you during the next Spartan Sprint.
