Allison, also, would grounding the power input negative lead to a cage around the Buck converter help with conducted and radiated QRN? 73, Randy K7RAN

Don, Radiated is low, conducted can be high... and if on the power leads (in and/or out) The they can serve to radiate.? ?By isolating the leads with ferrite and capacitors and RF on the leads going

I am? not an expert, but in a particular case disconnecting and terminating the antenna input should give a clue. Since most radios have some internal filtering and are typically connected to a

Re: MIQRP ZOOM CHAT
Don, thanks for that clarification. Quick question... would it be fair to say that the "typical" problem with Buck converters is more likely to be radiated emissions rather than conducted ones? And if

Re: MIQRP ZOOM CHAT
The shielding will help against radiated emissions, the ferrites, conducted emissions. They are/can be separate issues, fixing one may or may not help the other. 73, Don N2VGU

Yes, I have a 138W Tobsun 8V-40V input, 13.8V output that looks physically identical to this unit. If it is like mine, it will produce a lot of hash. I solved that problem by installing a Palomar

I use a Drok waterproof buck converter with my QMX. I used to use diodes but since I power my rig with a battery (Talentcell 3S LiIon) I had to carry a second straight-thru DC cable and switch them as

Dave, did you discover any noise issues in the receiver with the buck converter?? If not maybe you found a clean one (which one?) I'm planning to order a QMX+ and was researching which way to go for

Thanks Dave. Thanks for the discussion I agree. Hans does great work and is very helpful, so I wouldn¡¯t complain. He makes an excellent radio so inexpensive. You can probably see my working it out

"But then, 12 v is actually 13.8." And that is exactly the reason. The QMX and QMX+ are not specified to operate at any higher voltage than they are built for. I know that hams are used to the idea

Re: MIQRP ZOOM CHAT
Please see below I would like to know the reasons for the selection of 9 v. I originally assumed that 12 v would be easier, considering how many 12 v gadgets we have. But then, 12 v is actually 13.8.
