In lieu of the venerable AADE L/C Meter
k6whp
Since Neil Hecht's sad passing, his fine L/C meter is unavailable. While there are a plethora of Chinese units on eBay (with concomitant multi-fortnight waiting period), are there any worth considering? I have a young friend I am Elmering who would like an L/C unit like the AADE.
Recommendations gratefully accepted. -- William, K6WHP "Cheer up, things could get worse..so I cheered up and, sure enough, things got worse!" |

I have an LC100A and an LC200A. Both of them seem to work as

advertised, however, the LC100a is an open PCB, and the LC200A is in a shell. My LC200A sits on the bench, and the LC100A is stored in a box. I drag out the LC100A if I need to compare something. I had reinforce the flimsy fold-out support on the back of the LC200A, but otherwise, it works fine, and cost about the same as my DMM. I've used both the LC100-A for around $15.00 and the LC200A for around $30.00 on ebay. They all have the same basic circuitry. I recommend spending the extra money on the LC200A because of its nice case. The LC100-A is unpackaged and has a higher chance of getting damaged. Both of these are quite stable and can work down to low values of capacitance or inductance. The stability depends on the reference capacitor and coil used inside the unit. You can't beat either one of these for their performance for the price.

The Chinese tester are a clone of an open source project. You can find one

of the developers on the EEBlog forum. The other is on a German microcontroller forum. These little testers can do quite a bit but even more with the updated firm ware (1.35 I think, clones are 1,12) eevblog forum - (227 pages) Karl-Heinz' documentation is a good starting point: If you have a spare 328 w/bootloader, assorted resistors and caps, and a 1602 display you could make a basic original. Other displays can be used if you have a really nice junk box. Who has color tft touch screen LCDs in a junk box? Michael N9XYP On Fri, May 10, 2019 at 11:01 AM k6whp <k6whp@...> wrote:
