j309 transistor and MVAM109 varactor

Hi All,
I'm newbie in NorCal NC40A. My 11 pcs PCB is arrived yesterday from allpcb.com (will be make early Christmas gifts to my local HAM friends in Burgas, Bulgaria). Have a question: Will be able to use 2n7000 against j309 in mute/switch stage (Q2,Q3) ? I see that transistor is used like switch and I do not understand why is used? high frequency (expensive) jfet transistor ???And this is possible to use 2n7000 to Q5 and Q8 ? I have j310 and will use them to Q5 and Q8 but will be cheap to use 2n7000. And last: I be able to use other varactor - BB910 against MVAM109 ? Chuck Carpenter,?do you want a 500pF varactor?Then why not live with 1SV149?they are avaialable on ebay and not costly. i had bought from this guy, thrice.
