In the case of the QCX, it's only required for adj of C1. Any non conducting tool is suitable, there should be little resistance to movement with a trimmer cap. A nylon tool with a snug fitting blade

I bought a set of the cheap ones off Ebay. My experience is, if there is any resistance to turning in the core, the ends snap off. You also have to make sure the end of the ceramic tool is a snug fit

Hi William, Looked around a little. L15 appears to be Ferrite with initial permeability between Fair-Rite 43 and 31. Choke, Guanella, Balun Ferrite material used is US is often Fair-Rite 43 or 31.
