Re: looking for advice moving my shack pc to linux
I have never used more than one instance of WJTX or JTDX - Improved (my main application for FT*), but my advice to you is look to setup your radios ports with udev rules.? So the issue is that when you plug the radio, it might get a device ID that might not be the same every time (like
/dev/ttyUSB0 for sound and /dev/ttyUSB1 for serial and/or later different after a restart/reboot).? This happened to me a few times. With the udev rules, you can specify the device name.? For example /dev/rig1e for cat control the radio, /dev/rig1s for the other stuff... This tutorial here is for UBUNTU.? Read it carefully, and verify if it works the same with your distribution (which I think it does). Just my 2 cents.? Hope is useful.? I ditched Windows in my shack a long time ago, my only regret is I didn't before... 73's

Re: looking for advice moving my shack pc to linux
Thanks, I will have a look at JTDX, and I will also try to enable the alert functions of WSJT-X-Improved.
?
How are you feeding the QSO data into QLog?? That is to say, when you log a contact in JTDX, what is the process to get that log data into QLog?
FWIW, running Fedora 41 on i7-11700K -- overclocked to 5 GHz.? 32 GB ram.? I am currently running WSJT-X-Improved. ?

Re: looking for advice moving my shack pc to linux
Hi Jeff, give JTDX a try, it has a very extensive notification system built in. And it can also make sounds though I have never used this part of it. I just use it to tell me 3 things visually.
?
1. New DXCC and by band
2. New state and by band
3. New call and by band
?
The advantage of course is no other software required. Also, JTDX uses the active notifications in order to determine who it calls next. So if I have 10 people calling me and I have notifications for calls I have not worked before then it will work them first. You can make it do a lot of things that you can't with other software with no external add ons. So the way I have it setup it will answer in the followinhg order
?
1. new dxcc
2. new dxcc on band
3. new call
4. new call on band
5. worked before
?
In all cases furthest away first. So I will get to worked before but you wait till last.
?
So I just use flrig for rig control, QLOG for logging, and JTDX, and that's it. I did use Gridtracker at one time for instant uploads to online log services but as QLOG can do Clublog thats my mian interest really. The others I just do manually.?
?
I tried a few different linux distro but kept coming back to Ubuntu based as the easiest to get up and running with. For now C21TS runs on Linux Mint latest version.
?
You don't say how much memory your PC has but yes, I just ran up Gridtracker on my laptop and it was using 1.5Gb RAM (Ubuntu 24.04)
?
Using Bottles Flatpak it is also possible to run some Windows programs on Linux though I have not tried JTAlert. I doubt it would run, but Log4OM does for example.
?
I hope it works out for you like it has for me, much more stable and can leave PC running for months with no reboots, also can SSH in and tail logs to keep an eye on things using almost no bandwidth. I use Tailscale for networking.

looking for advice moving my shack pc to linux
Hi,
?
I want to switch away from Windows on my shack computer.? I have QLog installed, WSJT-X, etc.? but there is a part of my workflow I don't know how to reproduce in this? environment.
?
Today my setup is this:
?
I have two radios connected to two instances of WSJT-X-Improved.? WSJT-X feeds decode data to JTAlert, which then sends the decodes to DX Lab Suite "SpotCollector".
?
SpotCollector receives the WSJT-X decodes as "local spots", which are then filtered and will raise an alarm if I need the band/country/grid/etc.? I set up "band hopping" on WSJT-X-Improved, so my two radios each rotate between 2-4 bands, depending on the hour of the day and expected propagation.
?
?
This works very well, except my shack computer runs Windows 10, which will EOL in October, and I don't want to replace the hardware, which is more than adequate for the job (3.5 GHz i7 clocked at 5 GHz.? It's a good, fast machine, with extra USB ports and extra serial ports, purpose built for my shack...)? Microsoft's cavalier attitude "just buy a new computer" really makes me want to move my hamshack workloads all onto Linux.? (I have QLog and WSJT-X-Improved both installed on Fedora 41, this works well, I just do not have the "unworked" notifications...)
?
I considered using "GridTracker" but it is an Electron app which means it uses too much memory and too much CPU, so perhaps no GridTracker.? That's an option, just not a particularly appealing option.
?
Can any body offer some suggestions/advice for me to produce something similar to what I have now?
?
Thanks,
?

Re: FTDX-10 and Morse Over CAT
开云体育HiMy experience. My FTDX-10 worked fine with QLog only in conjunction with hamlib from the wsjtx kit. First I run in the command line “C:\WSJT\wsjtx\bin\rigctld-wsjtx.exe” -m 1042 -r COM6 -s 38400 -t 4532 and then QLog. In it, I choose like this: Only in this configuration I got everything working properly. Windows 10 On 01.04.2025 4:09, K3IY via groups.io

FTDX-10 and Morse Over CAT
Has anyone gotten morse over CAT to work with a FTDX-10, or any radio for that matter?? The only Qlog macro that kind of works is F3.? I say kind of works because it doesn't send the message setup in the macro on Qlog.? What it sends when I hit F3 is the message memory #5 on my FTDX-10.? I tried all options for PC keying (RTS, DTR, etc.) on the FTDX-10 and this doesn't change anything. |

Re: Contest Mode Set-up Question
Down in bottom status bar. Look at the section “New QSO Area Layout - Activity” And it also talks about here in the contest info: On Fri, Mar 28, 2025 at 7:38?PM JayMot DW7GDL via <jaymot123=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Contest Mode Set-up Question
开云体育Ok I think there may a slight bug but an easy workaround for now.Two options: - Close QLog and reopen it if the CQ-WW-SSB Activity is active and it should work. - Edit and reset he Contest ID field on the New Contact Widget - just backspace the end and reselect it and it should make them editable Good luck in the contest. 73 Michael, AA5SH

Contest Mode Set-up Question
开云体育All, I'd like to use QLog for this weekends CQ WW WPX contest. This
will be my first try at using this feature. I set-up a new Contest ID in Edit Activities (named CQ-WW-WPX),
and then added Contest ID, RcvExch, RcvNr, and SentNr to the Row B
list. Row A has the default values of Name, QTH, Gridsquare and
Comment in it. Next I went to the Values tab and checked Station and Rig.? But when I select CQ-WW-WPX from the list to start the contest,
the RcvNr and SentNr are greyed out. I'm fine with the sent number
being grey, but I need to enter a value for RcvNr as given by the
DX station. What have I missed doing? -- V/R, Michael G. Mcguire, K3SNO 484-703-9591 So Mote It Be |
