QLOG Won't save contacts

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Qlog WON¡¯T SAVE CONTACTS

I am fond of QLog. It looks like sensible logging software. QLog is perfect for my needs as an 81 year old CW only, non-contest newbie to Ham radio. In a delusion of self confidence last month, I blasted Microsoft into the past and loaded Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon. Linux installed very well onto my old Dell 9020 ¨C the specifics of which can be seen below.

QLog loaded well as far as I can tell. It dazzled me with hope that I can get on with my new hobby by connecting my ICOM 7300 through /tty/USB0. It was fun exploring the software, looking at the maps and loading s[email protected]ome of the accessories like QRZ.com. I saved two contacts, joined QRZ and shut the machine down for the night. The next day, I tried to save more contacts, but could not save anything. Analyzing what I did wrong loading the software, took me everywhere except to a solution. I still could not save any contacts. For whatever it is worth, the map continued to show me a contact distance to the south of some unknown length.

Figuring I loaded the software from the wrong source, I reloaded the software from Flathub with various magic combination like: loading the fresh software over the existing installation. Then I deleted the existing software and reloaded from Flathub. (That¡¯s when I noticed that I never really got a clean reinstall, because remnants of the initial download remained.) Anyway, I still do not have an installation that will allow me to save my contacts. I have no idea how to fix this problem. I have been at this for weeks and I¡¯m going nuts.

If any of you could provide a solution (other than buying a Windows laptop), I would be extremely grateful.

With the Greatest Sincerity,

John KD9WOY WE9F
