’ll be one of your two foxii in the 40 meter hunt on Tuesday evening, April 1 (April 2 GMT date), along with Don, K9DRP in IL. Look for me to be handing out pelts from Nashville, TN, grid EM66qd, between 0100 and 0230 Z and between 7030 and 7050 kHz. I’ll be running a Yaesu FT-991-A turned down to 5W into an inverted vee G5RV up 35 feet. I plan to be posting dots to the Fritz map (http://www.k4oaq.com/fox) so you can check your QSO, as long as technology cooperates. I will start running split, up 1+ and may change to simplex toward the end of the hunt. Exchange is the usual RST SPC Name PWR (RST TN CATHY 5W). I will repeat your call at the end of my exchange, so PLEASE be sure that I got it right before sending your full exchange. Some requests: * Faster doesn't mean better. I will be running at 20 - 22 WPM, and will slow when responding for those who need it. * If you hear me call another hound, please QRX until the QSO is finished. * If I’m running split, please don’t bunch up, because I’ll be listening outside the bunches. * Same for simplex, please don’t zero-beat me. * If technology cooperates, you can check the Fritz map to see whether I've logged you. I'll be operating from "The Banks of the Wabash" near Marshall, Illinois between 0100Z and 0230Z and within +/- 10Khz of 7.040 MHz. I’ll be running my Argo V throttled down to 5 watts into an EFHW up 50 ft. with an East-West broadside, and to an OCF up 40 ft. with a North-South broadside. I will be posting QSOs to the Fritz map (http://www.k4oaq.com/fox) using ACLog on Linux, so you can check the status of your pelt. I will be listening up to as high as you're willing to try, so take advantage of that range. I doubt that I will run simplex, unless things get awful slow. However, I will listen nearer to my transmit frequency for the last 30 minutes so that the old rigs without split capability can use RIT to make the contact. Well this one was interesting. Lots of hounds calling... trying to get through my noise floor which was somewhere between S-5 and S-6. If you saw my announcement and looked at the link you would see what I am faced with. My hearing isn't what it used to be and even before it started going south, I had a hard time hearing below the noise floor.. My S-meter was all over the scale and if I heard you that was enough... I'm sure that I'll have a few corrections... Thanks for your patience. Howdy Hounds, I will be a fox for the 80 meter hunt Thursday evening from 0100z until 0230z hiding in the North Georgia woods.between 3.5050 MHz and 3.5070 MHz .along with Tony KT0AA who will be hiding in the MO woods. Most of the time I will be calling: "CQ FOX K4PQC UP" as I am having some noise problems please spread out between 1 and 2 KHz higher than my calling frequency. If I don;t call "up" please try not to zero beat my frequency, go to one side or the other of my calling frequency, so that hounds can hear who I am calling.... more pelts will be handed out this way. Good evening hounds, I’m planning to operate from the 80m Woods tomorrow night, along with Phil K4PQC, from 8:00 to 9:30 PM CST (Fri, 3/28/2025, 01:00-02:30 UTC). You’ll find me somewhere between 3.550-3.570 MHz, listening 1-2 kHz above my transmit frequency, running a Kenwood TS-590SG at 5w output into a full-wave 80m horizontal loop up 30ft. At some point during the hunt, if I’m rarely hearing any stations calling, I will stop running split and operate simplex. You’ll know when that happens because I’ll stop sending “UP” after my CQ. Please do not zero-beat me while running simplex, rather call me 200-400 Hz above or below my transmit frequency. I’m only stating these things for those who may be new and/or unaware here. I will be pinch hitting for Dan N7CQR tonight, I will be opposite Randy NC4RT. By now you all know the drill, Randy and I will be lurking somewhere between 7.030 and 7.050 Mhz. Your mission, should you decide to accept it, will be to find us and complete the proper information in exchange for a pelt. I will be working split to start off and will be indicating that by the word "UP" after my CQs. If things go badly and there's lots of QRM, I'll resort to simplex and you'll notice that I am not sending "UP" anymore. Please spread out a bit and don't all pile up in one spot. I'll be making liberal use of my RIT knob. One last thing. Take a breathe! Please don't send your call 90 times in a row without a break! Call twice (at the most) and stop to listen! Hounds who non-stop send their calls just slow things down. If I can hear you, I'll come back to you, I promise! The set up here will be my KX3 to my 80 - 10 EFRW at 30 feet. I am submitting a revised log for last night's contest. I hope the Scorekeeper will give AK1P credit for his QSO with me. - I distinctly remember making that QSO - It occurred during the "hot and heavy" portion of the hunt - There is a clear gap in my log during the time his log shows the qso Apologies for the confusion. I do not know how it came to be unrecorded. I do recall having to work a bit to copy the call of the next qso in line, albeit not an extreme case. Perhaps I failed to hit the Enter key after working Paul, and then typed over it? Thanks for all for a fun time last night. There were perhaps a few "forever callers" but they did not hold me up much... I just tuned away a bit. We did have some POTA activity above and below me which limited my ability to spread the pack out. But thankfully we had a kc or two to work with. I'm told K7GO was trying mightily to get through at the end. I could hear some code out there Lew, but never enough to copy a character, even your "7".
