AJ1DM 40m Fox Announcement 3
How did it get to be March already???!!! Tomorrow night I will be your 40m fox, along with Steve WD4DFN. We will be prowling around between 7.030 and 7.050 MHz from 9 -10:30 PM Eastern, aiming to give out lots of pelts! I'll be running my K3 at 5w to my 40m dipole. I will start out split, as always, and will transition to simplex if and when the pack thins out. There are often a few hounds who miss that transition. The signal is very subtle: when split I send "CQ FOX AJ1DM UP" and when simplex "CQ FOX AJ1DM K". Pay close attention so you are transmitting on the frequency that I'm most likely to hear and thus most likely to give you a pelt! Having said that, spread your QRG's so I can dissect the pack as quickly as possible. Zero-beaters make terrible hunters!! I plan to post on the Fritz map. I look forward to working as many of you Hounds as possible! 72 de John AJ1DM

WD4CFN 80M Fox Announcement
I will be your 80M fox again along with Dave, N1IX, tomorrow evening. I am located in Nashville, TN, and we are forecasted to have better weather than Tuesday night. I will be running an IC-7610 at 5W into a 140' Doublet up about 45'. I also have a beverage that I plan to use also. Look for us between 3.550-3.570 Mhz between 8pm CST to 930 CST (0200-0330z). I will start calling CQ FOX de WD4CFN UP, then just WD4CFN UP. I will be listening up 1-2Khz, but I will go simplex if/when things slow down. I will send your call twice on the first exchange and again with a "TU". Let me know if I make a mistake in your call. I plan to use Fritz's mapping software. I hope to hand out as many pelts as I can. Have fun and good luck! 72, Steve WD4CFN

40M Fox Hunt tonight 3
Both Steve and John did a great job tonight in the midst of severe storms coming into the Southeast. Both (especially Steve WD4CFN) were very strong in Athens, GA this evening. I much prefer 40m hunts over the somewhat noisy 80m pelt attempts, but both have been lots of fun in my first year of really trying. I hope both of you had as much fun as I did as a Fox. Great work men!!! Scott KW4NJA

AJ1DM 40m Fox Log - Preliminary 2
Wow, lots of hounds tonite! I didn't have a moment without signals, though toward the end the signals were pretty challenging! I don't remember this happening before but I had several cases where hounds called for a second pelt. I couldn't figure it out at first, but then I realized I had gotten something wrong - name or state. So I apologize for miscopying you and making you fight through the pack again. Lids
There are some lids participating in the Fox Hunts, which are barely fun anymore. One station tonight called continuously 11 times non stop. That interferes with other stations listening and it interferes with the fox. Then, when the fox asked for his name, he sent his state about five times fast. The fox had to ask for the name twice. If this event is to be a good way to learn and practice pileups, I assume we are talking about DX pileups. There is a DX Code of Conduct often adhered to in DXing. I see no reason why the Fox Hunt cannot adhere to the same courteous code of conduct. Here are the two relevant sections of the code: 4-I will not interfere with the DX station nor anyone calling and will never tune up on the DX frequency or in the QSX slot. 7-I will call and then listen for a reasonable interval. I will not call continuously. Dick AB0CD.. -- 72, Dick AB0CD Colorado QRP Club

ARS Spartan Sprint Tonight!
7 to 9 PM CST 0100 to 0300 Z Overview & Rule Summary FOR THE ADVENTURE RADIO SOCIETY SPARTAN SPRINT What is an ARS Spartan Sprint and how can I participate? The Adventure Radio Society Spartan Sprint is a two hour casual QRP contest. It is held on the first Monday of every month to encourage QRP operators to get on and go to somewhere near the standard QRP frequencies on the 80-40-20-15-10 Meter bands for an evening of fun. It is open to all QRP CW operators ¨C there is not any membership requirement. Operating portable and/or using lightweight minimalist (spartan) equipment is encouraged, but is not required. THE CONTEST PERIOD FOR EACH TIME ZONE IS: EASTERN 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Local. CENTRAL 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Local MOUNTAIN 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Local PACIFIC 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Local Does not shift for DST ¨C This event is always at these Local Times (UTC for STANDARD TIME : 0100Z to 0300Z) (UTC for DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME : 0000Z to 0200Z) POWER OUTPUT To keep with its minimalist theme, Maximum Spartan Sprint power output is 5 watts. However, a Spartan Sprint participant running 5 watts who is submitting results is allowed to work a non-QRP station. That contact will count. (A Non-QRP station is not permitted to submit results for this QRP event.) OPERATION We operate CW on 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters, around standard QRP frequencies. Call CQ SP Or listen for calling stations. EXCHANGE - Your Call Sign - Your State or Province - Your Power output SCORING Scoring is somewhat unique - score is calculated based on [Number of Contacts] / [Station Weight]. Working the same station on a different band counts as another contact. The weight of your station consists of everything except your antenna and feed line. If your station includes your home-based rig, antenna tuner, DC power supply, heavy paddle or bug - obviously you are not lightweight - simply report your weight as 30 lbs. (That is the default weight for the Tubby division.) REPORTING To report your results, go to 3830scores.com 3830 Scores Home , and select the ¡®ARS Spartan Sprint¡¯ (on the Left side). What a horrid night! Things didn't start out too bad at first, although my noise level was a constant S9. Then at 8:33 the "Martian Radar" fired up, wiping out segments several kC wide on the band. In switching between antennas the peak noise levels were a few kC apart. I had to hunt for sections in the band where I could hear anything. I think folks were having trouble hearing me too, as I had to ask for several stations multiple times to respond with their exchange. So Todd, N9NE, how many contacts did you have to make before I finally got your name logged correctly?! Damn auto-fill bites sometimes. DX Code of Conduct 2
DX Code of Conduct I will listen, and listen, and then listen again before calling. I will only call if I can copy the DX station properly. I will not trust the DX cluster and will be sure of the DX station's call sign before calling. I will not interfere with the DX station nor anyone calling and will never tune up on the DX frequency or in the QSX slot. I will wait for the DX station to end a contact before I call. I will always send my full call sign. I will call and then listen for a reasonable interval. I will not call continuously. I will not transmit when the DX operator calls another call sign, not mine. I will not transmit when the DX operator queries a call sign not like mine. I will not transmit when the DX station requests geographic areas other than mine. When the DX operator calls me, I will not repeat my call sign unless I think he has copied it incorrectly. I will be thankful if and when I do make a contact. KR0U Log Report for 26 Feb 2025 6
A fine night on 40M! The hardest part was trying to pick calls out of a solid wall of good QRP signals tonight. There was no precipitation static, and the winds didn't seem to be causing any issues. I fat-fingered N9NE Todd's call on the the first QSO, but he wisely called for an insurance pelt shortly after his Fritz-Dot didn't appear. Don NK6A forgot to check his power, and asked me to cancel the 100W first QSO at 0203, and count only the legal 5W contact at 0301. Both those hounds bagged good pelts with their second QSO, and deservedly so. So adjusting for those two invalid contacts I count 72 valid QSOs, two foxes, for a of total 74. Thank you all for being part of the hunts! This was my last fox run for the season, but I hope to hear you all in the packs and for the season-end Foxtravaganza. 72, --Tim (KR0U) UTC Sent Call Rcvd QTH Name Pwr Comments --------------------------------------------------------------------- 0200 579 K9NE 579 WI TODD 5W Wrong Call (N9NE, see 0217) 0202 559 K9IUA 559 IA KEVIN 5W 0203 579 NK6A 589 CA DON 5W Removed by request (100W, see 0301) 0203 599 NO2D 599 CO PETER 5W 0204 559 N3MM 599 VA HARRY 5W 0205 559 K9CW 599 IL DREW 5W 0206 559 K6PJV 559 CA DALE 5W 0207 559 WA4ZOF 559 GA TOM 5W 0208 599 WC7S 599 WY DALE 5W 0209 559 KK5LD 599 TX DAN 5W 0210 559 KD5KC 559 TX MIKE 5W 0211 559 NK3H 599 AZ MITCH 5W 0212 579 N2RK 579 NY JACK 5W 0213 579 K6XR 559 CA MAC 5W 0214 579 K0LOA 559 TX DWAIN 5W 0215 559 KK4BNC 599 GA RANDY 5W 0216 559 AC0BQ 579 KS JOHN 5W 0217 579 N9NE 579 WI TODD 5W Right call (see 0200) 0217 559 AL7V 559 OK SAM 5W 0218 559 VE3NFK 559 ON JOHN 5W 0219 559 K6FA 599 CA DAVID 5W 0220 559 WB5BKL 559 TX NICK 5W 0221 559 N4KV 579 AL JOHN 5W 0222 559 WD4CFN 579 TN STEVE 5W 0222 559 W4CMG 559 TN CATHY 5W 0224 559 WB9HFK 559 IL MARK 5W 0224 559 W6SIY 559 CA KEITH 5W 0226 559 KO4VW 559 GA STEVE 5W 0227 559 N2TNN 55N VA DEAN 5W 0228 559 KZ5J 559 TX PAT 5W 0228 559 K4PQC 559 GA PHIL 5W 0229 559 N0YJ 599 KS BERT 5W 0230 559 ND4K 559 GA DAVE 5W 0231 559 N5KIP 559 TX DICK 5W 0232 559 N1IX 559 NH DAVE 5W 0233 559 KB5FCF 559 OK JOEL 4W 0234 559 NC4RT 559 NC RANDY 5W 0235 559 K0DTJ 559 CA BRIAN 5W 0236 539 N4MJ 569 TN GLENN 5W 0237 539 W1FMR 559 FL JIM 5W 0238 559 NK9G 559 WI RICK 5W 0240 539 AK1P 559 FL PAUL 5W 0241 559 K2SJB 559 NY DAVE 5W 0242 539 WA9CW 559 WI TOM 5W 0243 559 N3VO 559 MD MARC 5W 0244 559 K7GO 559 MT LEW 5W 0245 579 KG5UK 559 OK BRAD 5W 0246 559 N9FZ 559 GA CAINAN 5W 0247 559 WB8QZM 559 TX BRIAN 5W 0248 539 KC1FB 559 CT JIM 5W 0249 559 K2ZC 559 NJ DAVE 5W 0250 539 K2TW 579 VA TOM 5W 0251 579 NN4K 579 GA MAC 5W 0252 559 K9TA 559 IN STEVE 5W 0253 539 N9WKE 559 IL BRUCE 5W 0253 579 W6QPA 559 CA RAY 5W 0254 329 NK2Y 559 NY JAY 5W 0258 239 NX1K 559 MA MARK 5W 0259 559 W2SH 589 NJ CHAS 5W 0300 559 ND4U 559 TN DEN 5W 0301 579 NK6A 559 CA DON 5W This QSO at 5W (see 0203) 0302 539 K3UT 559 GA PHIL 5W 0304 599 KI0RB 559 CO VINCE 5W 0305 579 KT0AA 599 MO TONY 5W 0306 579 N8SS 579 MI EARL 5W 0309 229 AK3X 449 MD PETER 5W 0312 339 N9OHW 339 CA ZEKE 5W 0313 579 K9DRP 599 IL DON 5W 0316 229 K8LBQ 559 GA BAIN 5W 0317 579 W5AJD 559 LA JERRY 5W 0320 339 KV2X 559 NY TOM 5W 0321 559 N0AR 559 MN SCOTT 5W 0329 559 N3CI 559 OK DAVE 5W 0300 FOX WX2S FOX NJ STEVE 5W 0300 FOX KR0U FOX CO TIM 5W

K9DRP Fox announcement for Thursday, Feb 27
I¡¯ll be one of your two foxii on 80 meters Thursday night, along with Earl, N8SS, in Michigan. I'll be operating from "The Banks of the Wabash" near Marshall, Illinois between 0100 and 0230Z and within +/- 10Khz of 3.560 MHz. I¡¯ll be running my Argo V throttled down to 5 watts into an EFHW up 50 ft. with an East-West broadside, and to an OCF up 40 ft. with a North-South broadside. I will be posting QSOs to the Fritz map (http://www.k4oaq.com/fox) so you can check the status of your pelt. I will be listening up as far as hounds are willing to try, so take advantage of that range. I doubt that I will run simplex, unless things get awful slow. Exchange is the usual RST SPC Name PWR (RST IL Don 5W). I will repeat your call at the end of my exchange. I hope to give out pelts from coast to coast, and north to the Canucks! Good luck and happy hunting! 72, Don, K9DRP -- "I reckon. Therefore I am." Don Pine, K9DRP donpine@... K9DRP@... 217-826-1111

N8SS 80M Fox Announcement
K9DRP and I will be your 80M foxii this week. As usual, I will start out split and go to simplex when activity warrants it. Listen for the UP in my CQ to determine if I am split. I am located in a rural locale in SW Michigan that is usually pretty quiet. Good luck to all, see you in the log. 73 Earl N8SS
