KR0U RE: WX2S 40m fox announcement for Feb. 25
And I'll be the other fox. I run 5W from the KX3 to a 43 ft vertical, backed up by a low dipole. I second what Steve says about operating practices, with two additions: - Every time you send your call, listen before sending it again. I may be trying to reply to you, but you won't know that if you don't make use of your hound dog ears! - If I ask for a partial call sign, stand by unless your call is a likely match for the partial. Good luck to all hounds, and may old Sol be kind to us! 72, Tim (KR0U) -------- Original message -------- From: "Steve WX2S via groups.io" <steve.masticola@...> Date: 2/24/25 3:47 PM (GMT-07:00) To: [email protected] Subject: SPAM [qfox] WX2S 40m fox announcement for Feb. 25 Hi, all, I¡¯ll be one of your two foxii on Tuesday night, along with Tim, KR0U, in Colorado. Look for me to be handing out pelts from Kingston, NJ, grid FN20qj, between 0200 and 0330Z and between 7030 and 7050 kHz. I¡¯ll be running a K3 tuned down to 5W into a 43-foot base-loaded vert. I will be posting dots to the Fritz map (http://www.k4oaq.com/fox) so you can check your QSO. Some requests: * Please enable QSK and your split-mode receiver (subreceiver) if you have those capabilities. That enables you to hear me and any other hounds near you who might QRM you. * If you hear me call another hound, please QRX until the QSO is finished. * If I¡¯m split, please don¡¯t bunch up, because I¡¯ll be listening outside the bunches. * If I¡¯m simplex, please don¡¯t zero-beat me. * You can check the Fritz map to see whether I've logged you. Don't be shy about asking for a repeat QSO if you thought I got you and I didn't. If you do these things, there's a better chance that I'll be able to hand you a pelt before the propagation goes out or the hunt ends. Good luck and happy hunting! 73/72, -Steve WX2S.

Well that was less than optimal. I transmitted on 3557.53 for the whole hunt. I stayed split to the end. Obviously, I need a 80m receive antenna or I need to move somewhere with less noise. Here is the small log: just 15 hounds plus the 2 foxes for a total of 17. The log is below. In the future I should follow Sherman's pledge: "I will not accept [being an 80m fox] if nominated and will not serve if elected." I stayed on 3561.5 all night. A couple of you could use a refresher on "split" vs "simplex." It was only by luck that I stumbled across you, 1 kHz or more above me when I had stopped saying "UP". But a fairly clean night. Big congrats to Lew K7GO for sticking with me. It took me forever to dig his callsign out, and then more repeats on everything else. Well done Lew! The magic of ions held forth again... the first 40 minutes were fairly strong, then 5 minutes of fading signals, then 45 minutes of crickets. Please advise of any fat fingerings. W9CF 80m fox announcement Feb 21 UTC (Feb 20 local)
Hi everyone, I will be one of the 80 meter foxes (along with Randy, NC4RT) on Thursday, February 20 local time (February 21 UTC). I will be operating from my shack in Tempe, AZ. I will use a Kenwood TS-590sg connected to a 40m, quarter wavelength, vertical, with a 80m Hustler resonator on top. I will be somewhere between 3550 and 3570 KHz, from 0200Z-0330Z, and will begin by working split. I'll be using TR linux for logging, and I plan to be connected to Fritz's, K4OAQ, map available at <https://www.k4oaq.com/fox/foxLogin.php>. Try to be loud! Send QRS if you need me to slow down. I'll try to work as many of you as I can. 73 Kevin w9cf

Preliminary log KW4NJA 40M Fox Hunt 2.18.2025
2
Here is the preliminary log for tonight. It's still a little difficult for me to work the pileup, but it went a little better than last week. Propagation was great on my end. I think I have a few minor errors in the log, so please review it and let me know what changes need to be made. Thanks for being patient with me in my rookie season. Final Log Fox Hunt 80M K4BAI
I received no request for corrections, so the preliminary log, reproduced below, is the final log. 73/72, John, K4BAI. Here is the preliminary log from last night's 80M QRP Fox Hunt. Please advise of any transcription errors before Monday morning. I will then post the final log. I was on 3556.5 kHz listening up until the pile up died down and I started listening simplex at 0256Z. Total of 61 hounds and the two foxes for a score of 63. Apologies to any I may have not been able to copy, including K0DTJ and two other CA hounds that I now know were calling. Equipment was TS590SG at 5W to 125' zepp in inverted vee configuration with the top at about 35' through a Palstar antenna tuner. Best DX were K6XR in CA and K7GO in MT. 73/72, John, K4BAI. 0202 N8SS 559 MI EARL 5W 0203 WB9HFK 579 IL MARK 5W 0204 K4PQC 579 GA PHIL 5W 0204 KK4BNC 599 GA RANDY 5W 0205 WD4CFN 579 TN STEVE 5W 0205 K9CW 599 IL DREW 5W 0206 K2TW 579 VA TOM 5W 0207 W5AJD 559 LA JERRY 5W 0207 AK1P 599 FL PAUL 5W 0208 N9NE 559 WI TODD 5W 0209 ND4U 559 TN DEN 5W 0209 N2RK 599 NY JACK 5W 0210 N0YJ 579 KS BERT 5W 0211 AC0BQ 559 KS JOHN 5W 0212 N9WKE 559 IL BRUCE 5W 0213 W9XU 559 WI LON 5W 0213 W1FMR 599 FL JIM 5W 0214 K4EES 599 AL KEN 5W 0214 NO2D 599 CO PETER 5W 0215 N4MJ 559 TN GLENN 5W 0215 ND4K 599 GA MAC 5W 0216 W2SH 589 NJ CHAS 5W 0217 KK4E 599 GA DON 5W 0218 KK5LD 559 TX DAN 5W 0218 N4KV 599 AL JOHN 5W 0219 KR0U 559 CO TIM 5W 0220 KG5UK 559 OK BRAD 5W 0220 N2TNN 559 VA DEAN 5W 0221 K2SJB 559 NY DAVE 5W 0223 WA9CW 599 WI TOM 5W 0223 K9IUA 559 IA KEVIN 5W 0224 K0LOA 559 TX DWAIN 5W 0226 W9OD 559 WI CRAIG 5W 0226 N1IX 559 NH DAVE 5W 0227 W4CNG 559 TN CATHY 5W 0228 KQ0E 559 TX RON 5W 0229 AK3X 569 MD PETER 5W 0232 NK9G 559 WI RICK 5W 0233 W1XV 599 NH BRAD 5W 0235 WC7S 599 WY DALE 5W 0236 K3PH 559 PA BOB 5W 0237 K4QPL 599 NC JIM 5W 0239 KZ5J 599 TX PAT 5W 0240 WA4ZOF 599 GA TOM 5W 0241 NC4RT/P 599 NC RANDY 5W 0242 NN4K 599 GA MAC 5W 0243 K9DRP 579 IN DON 5W 0244 WQ0N 559 MN RUSS 5W 0245 KW4NJA 599 GA SCOTT 5W 0247 K7GO 559 MT LEW 5W 0250 KC1FB 559 CT JIM 5W 0252 KT0AA 559 MO TONY 5W 0258 KF4LMZ 559 SC PAT 5W 0259 KO4VW 559 GA STEVE 5W 0308 KR2Q 579 NJ DOUG 5W 0310 WO9B 559 WI MIKE 5W 0311 NX1K 559 MA MARK 5W 0314 K9TA 559 IN STEVE 5W 0323 K6XR 559 CA MAC 5W 0325 N4GG 579 GA HAL 5W 0327 K3UT 599 GA PHIL 5W 0330 W2LJ FOX NJ LARRY 5W 0330 K4BAI FOX GA JOHN 5W

KW4NJA Fox announcement 40M 2-18-2025
I have the honor to be one of the 2 Foxii for tomorrow night on 40M along with Earl N8SS in Michigan. I will be operating my FTDx10 set at 5w from my QTH in Athens, GA into an OCF Dipole at 23'. I will be set up between 7.030-7.050 working split and listening 1-2 kHz UP. Please spread out your calls and try not to stack up. As a fairly new Foxii, I am still getting my sea legs working a QRP Fox pileup. I will do my best to get all of you who I can hear in my log. I will be actively spotting on the Fritz map, so if you don't see your spot, please call again. I hope to get all of you in my log tomorrow night. Scott KW4NJA

N8SS 40M Fox Announcement
KW4NJA and I are up as your foxes Tuesday night. I am located in SW Michigan and the antenna is a dipole at 30 feet. The QTH is rural so it is pretty quiet on my end. I will start out split and go to simplex if the activity peters out. I will also QRS as the hunt goes on and activity slows up. No real time log posting as internet is still a bit sparse out here. Try to practice the one shot, one kill philosophy. Spread your calls out in both the time and frequency domain. That one late call, a little off frequency can really stand out in the pile up. Can't remember ever having finished a hunt with hounds still calling so will try to log em as fast as possible before propagation changes to give everyone a shot. See you in the log. 73 Earl N8SS
