Hi, Guys--
Now that was one bizarre Fox Hunt. They are always different, but this was one for the books.
I deliberately pointed the beam every whitchaway, but not a peep out of OK, NM, or AZ. Lloyd was very strong here all evening and we actually worked direct at one point-- sort of a point of pride or something-- we don't need no steenkin automatic qso's [g].
It was a very strange hunt, in some ways the easiest that I have done because it was spread out. It was like propagation would be there for 5 or 6 minutes and then go away for 5 or 6. Apart from the very first qso I don't think I ever heard more than 2 or 3 stations calling at the same time, and I was calling CQ frequently in the first half hour.
Last week I spent most of the 90 minutes listenting to static. Didn't hear a peep out of either fox, and only heard a couple of hounds from time to time. So I guess this was an improvement.
First pass at poking up the log is done and my rough count is 62; should be able to post it later today with a bit of luck.
Many thanks to everybody who participated. And I'd appreciate suggestions for what to do next week when I get the shakes and the fever from withdrawal!

Re: penultimate Summer FOX: K3ESE
Lloyd: Well I will be using a brand spanking new K2 this evening! Please give me a holler if you hear it. Haven't had a brand new one for a long time. Someone had already mostly assembled it, but it needed considerable technical work and a LOT of TLC to be set right. Dick W0NTA worked on it for a couple of weeks. He had to order a couple of hundred bucks' plus worth of parts from Elecraft, set the filtres, etc.and then sent it to me. It arrived two evenings ago. Gotta tell ya, it is simply FABULOUS in every way. The receiver is simply fabulous and the CW filtres are just perfect to my taste. So....I am rarin' to go [g]. Now if only the conditions will cooperate for a change! Oh, and I will be using one of the W5GI so-called "mystery antennas" as an inverted vee with the centre up only 30' or so. That will also be brand new, so my fingers (and toes!) are crossed, let me tell ya! Good luck everyone for both pelts tonite. I have missed a whole bunch of them this summer, some due to calendar conflicts, but some due to poor conditions. Let's all hope for GREAT condx for a change. And for LLOYD and ET, let's hope both of them set personal records! 73, --Doc/K0EVZ [Original Message] From: Lloyd Lachow <llachow@...> To: a new, nice low-energy list <qrp-l@...>; QFOX <qfox@...> Date: 8/17/2005 9:55:24 AM Subject: [qfox] penultimate Summer FOX: K3ESE
Yes, I'll be your next-to-last Fox tomorrow night from 0100-0230Z on 20M, between 14.050-14.070. I'll be working split as long as possible or necessary. If there is QRM, I probably won't move if I can help it, but I will listen both ABOVE and BELOW my frequency for Hounds. You can find all the details at:
see you there,

Tomorrow evening is the end of the Summer 20M QRP Fox Hunt and I will have the pleasure of being one of your foxes. It's been an interesting season with a lot of bizarre ups and downs for most of us. I'd like to go out with a bang, of course, but thats up to the gods of propagation. And you!
It would be a great opportunity to try your hand at fox hunting if you haven't before, and if you want all the details you'll find them at .
I'll be operating from my home QTH in Aurora (near Denver) CO and will be alternating between a C4 beam and a vertical. So if you have trouble hearing me try again later and you might find I've rotated toward you.
Good luck! And may the Fox be with you... 73 ET

... there is no Virginia.
I have missed those sly VA foxes every hunt this summer. Tonight I know about where Alan is but I can't hear him. Shucks! Lloyd is going to beat me.
If I don't remember to say it after the last hunt this season, which is next week I believe, I want to thank all the foxes and organizers of these summer hunts. I have looked forward to Thursday nights all summer long thanks to you guys. It's been fun and I hope to see you all on 40M this winter when those pelts will be nice and thick.
Thanks again.

Re: (Fwd) [FOX] I'm back...
Gang: I am also back tonite.....depending on conditions of course!!. Have missed *six* hunts this summer due to summer stock theatre. But tonite is a different story. Will be using my K1 to an International Radio Double Bazooka inverted vee up ~ 30 in the centre. Hope that will get the job done! Anyway, GL both foxes, and for everyone for both pelts tonite! 73, --Doc/K0EVZ [Original Message] From: Marshall Emm <n1fn@...> To: <qfox@...> Date: 8/11/2005 3:29:51 PM Subject: [qfox] (Fwd) [FOX] I'm back...

(Fwd) [QRP-L] FOX: AC7A July 21st
------- Forwarded message follows ------- Howdy hounds,
Get ready, because I am one of your FOX hosts this coming Thursday evening from 01:00 to 02:30 UTC (July 22nd by UTC time). If conditions are decent I am usually a pretty easy catch for everyone except the close in guys. I'll do my best to listen for K5DI, K0EVZ, and all the other close in hounds.
Please note that we are in the summer thunderstorm season here in the Sonoran Desert. Should I disappear for a while it is because the lightning is close. As much as I enjoy the hunts their probably not worth getting fried over. There is lightning right now as I type this message!
Hope to hear you in the pile ups.

Hope to work you all.

(Fwd) [QRP-L] FOX: Current Standings
------- Forwarded message follows ------- We are halfway through the Summer 2005 Fox Hunt, and this is a reminder that Fox and Hound standings through week #5 are available for your inspection at . All ten Fox logs are there also. The propagation deities have played their little tricks on us this season, and I would like to thank those Foxes who weren't able to hand out many pelts due to conditions for "hanging in there" for the full 1 1/2 hours nonetheless.
W0NTA has, for the moment at least, copped top Fox standing with 71 contacts, while N1FN and W5HNS have moved into the top of the Hound heap with 9 of 10 pelts garnered. AC7A and KL7V are right on their heels with 8 pelts.
The only constant in this season's hunt seems to be change. CU Thursday evening!

AC7A preliminary log...posted for Tom
Hello Hounds,
Here are the results from the June 30th, 2005 (July 1st, 0100-0230 UTC), 20-meter, QRP FOX hunt. Please let me know of any required corrections, directly, at qrp_op@... .
The band conditions were fair on this end, with moderately high QRN. The QRN made it difficult to copy some very marginal stations. I hope I was able to pull everyone that was calling me out of the noise.
Thanks to all the hounds.
