Re: K4OAQ 80 Meter Log 3/21/25
Ron KQ0E,
What can I say? Obviously I'm not as attentive as I thought I was when hearing what the hound sends & what my N1MM history file has populated with. Funny, I always thot "who we think we are is not necessarily who we actually are" applied to others, not me. :( Maybe we shud outlaw N1MM history file? Anyways, I'll try & fix the N1MM history file soon. Hopefully, ole scrooge the scorekeeper will show some pity. Anyways, getting your call into the log TWICE with no help from N1MM shud count at least 1/2 point :)
?
Paul AK1P and Mr Scorekeeper,
I've finally awakened & been thinking how '5' got into the QTH. "It's complicated," as they say. First, I have AutoHotKey (AHK) setup so I enter the call, then hit the the number on the numeric keypad for the signal strength. AHK is set so when any number on the number keypad is hit, it tabs over one & enters the number that was hit on the keypad. Recall one tab over from the call field puts N1MM into the RST field. Most everybody is in the history file so QTH, NAME & PWR are populated at that point. For you that wud be NH PAUL 5W.?
AHK then hits the Enter key and at this point N1MM ESM (Enter Sends Message) mode sends my message (AK1P 559 VA FRITZ 5W AK1P)
So, that's the situation with our first QSO at 0104. So far so good, cursor is sitting there waiting for me to overwrite the 9 in 599 with what you send. There's one more tidbit of how numbers in calls AND RST received shud be entered. Do NOT USE the number keypad, USE numbers on the top row of the keyboard. So, we're all set for what I did to enter the RST ... yup, I rcvd 559 & I hit the '5' on the number keypad. Recall AHK tabs over one, enters the keypad number, '5' in this case, into the QTH field then Enter. N1MM ESM mode at this point logs the QSO clears all fields & sends the 'TU' msg. Well, this happens while you're in the middle of sending NH & PAUL, so I hit Esc & am wondering what the hell just happened ... it wasn't until several QSOs later that I realized what I had done. And the consequences of what I had done wasn't realized until this moring. I do believe our brains solve puzzles while we sleep ... or at least thinks about things ...?
For the 2nd QSO, I admit I don't pay a lot of attention since I know you're already in the log. I know, it's a bad habit, but you wouldn't believe how many times in other contests like CQWW & ARRL DX I have many dupe QSOs. Some guys even call more than twice. Nope, I don't waste time with B4, it's much quicker to work them again. And who knows, maybe they didn't log me the first time, hence it may result in me not losing points becuz I aint in their log.
Well, there you have it ... more information than you wanted.

Re: K4OAQ 80 Meter Log 3/21/25
Hi Fritz - I worked you at 1:28Z but didn't see my dot on the Fritz map for Wylie, TX (near Dallas).? I assumed it could have been a logging hiccup so I worked you again at 1:52Z (we had good propagation the whole session).? Once again the Fritz map did not show we worked at my Wylie, TX QTH.? It was only then that my eyes drifted further north on the map and, sure enough, there was my dot at my old QTH in Bemidji, MN.
?
I've had this issue before and provided my updated QTH to Dale and the issue was resolved.? So I'm wondering if there is more than one database that Fritz map uses?? My new QTH (TX) has been updated in QRZ since July 2023.

Paul,
Good grief. The first '5' I think was due to my AHK setup altho I'm a little fuzzy exactly how it happened.
Obviously I was apparently asleep when the QSO was going on since I didn't notice.
Then, I remember wking you a 2nd time & it didn't dawn on me there mite have been probs with the first QSO.
And the second '5' I blame on N1MM for thinking consistency is the key to logging ... and of course I was asleep agn.
Ya know, I think AK1P in Morse code puts me to sleep ... zzzzzzzzz |

Yeah, I kinda remember a K0. Maybe I even got a few letters. Sri abt Brian. There were several times in the last 30 mins I was able to dig some letters out but then nada. I think there may have been several diff stns I just cudn't dig out. I cudn't tell whether it was QSB or whether they gave up on me hearing them. My NW beverage really sounded funny at times. It sounded like a strong stn nearby overloading the Rx but when I tuned trying to find the stn I never heard anybody. Also, when I flipped bev to another direction the "overload" went away. The wind was really blowing & often branches fall on the beverages ... it just dawned on me that the two wire beverages that are seperated by abt 12 inches could have been intermittenly touching which could explain what I was hearing. I'm thinking a long BOG towards the West mite be a good warm wx project for next year. Run it into the fields where the cows are just before the hunt & hope they don't stumble over it.? |
