Prelim 40m Fox Hunt NR3Z 29-gen-2025

All,
? ?Thank you for a great hunt.? Signals were strong for the first hour and then faded to noise after that.? Sorry for the stations I could not copy but I was only getting single letters but I could not pull out a call.? ?Around 10:10 someone decided?to start CQing on my frequency without a QSL.? I had to move up 2kHz and worked?one last?station.??
I thought I had?set up my logging SW to send the RST that I entered but that?did not seem?to?work.? I did log the?your?RST and it?is listed below.
?Here's the perlim log.? Let?me know if I got anything wrong.

NO ¨C it wasn¡¯t you at all.? You are the FOX ¨C you run the show.? The issue was that when you would reply to someone there were a few hounds running simplex that were still sending.? It was near impossible to tell who you were calling for most exchanges.? There were a couple of times I thought you might be calling me so I sent my call again and heard nothing.

It had nothing to do with you at all. ?Radio is a HOBBY.? Fox Hunting is a GAME.? It just wasn¡¯t that important to me to keep trying.?

Re: KW4NJA Preliminary log for 80M 1.24.2025

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

All absolutely true.? And the activator (FOX) controls the pile-up.? They get to run it the way they want to run it.? They decide when they run split or simplex.? None of the hounds know the reason the FOX went simplex so early.? It doesn¡¯t matter.? The FOX controls the pile-up.? Period. And I am certain I could not have done better.

I wasn¡¯t complaining.? It was my decision to turn the radio off and go watch TV.? The way the pile-up was running the FOX was reporting 599 to the hounds.? The band wasn¡¯t very good for me; I was hearing the FOX maybe 439.? I could not hear who the FOX was replying to, every time the FOX replied to someone¡¯s call sign there were still hounds calling on top of the FOX.?

There may have been a better chance of the FOX was split, at least I could have heard who the FOX was calling.? But I didn¡¯t figure there was much chance of me getting in the log.? And I¡¯m just not obsessed with this enough to sit for an hour plus trying.

FWIW, the TV wasn¡¯t much better¡¡. But time spent with the wife is special even if I don¡¯t care for the Hallmark Channel!? ?.

Re: KW4NJA Preliminary log for 80M 1.24.2025

Agreed. He was simplex real early and it was a feeding frenzy. People calling on top of him even while he was calling someone. I could hear him weakly when he was replying to someone, but I could never hear who he called because people kept sending while he was replying and most were much louder than he. Knowing he was weak, and I likely would be as weak, and realizing I probably wouldn't know it if he did call me, I grinned, shook my head, and turned the radio off. I joined the wife watching TV.

I guess it just isn't an obsession with me, I don't care about the numbers.

Scott,
I believe you effectively went simplex much earlier in the hunt than you believe you had. I was calling you right away at first, when it seemed you were having trouble hearing anyone, but still when you were calling UP (if I remember correctly). Rather than stick around, I chose to go looking for Fritz for awhile instead. When I came back to you at about 0220, it was like everyone was already piled right on top of you, well below a UP 1 split. You were also calling QRZ without any UP to go with it. I had figured you had gone simplex already then, which could make sense if propagation wasn't allowing anyone to be really loud to you and therefore be noticed while looking UP 1 or higher.

For a first night, you still ended up with a decent-sized log. About what I had on my first forays as a fox two years back. Keep at it, especially trying to spread us hounds out further apart and higher in frequency, which will come with practice.

No Foxii heard on the CA coast. I hung in for 75 minutes and heard hounds from CO, TX, WY & MT but no one east of the Mississippi. I had the waterfall of the entire woods up on the big display and the hounds were easy to spot but I could see no traces down one from either pileup. ?

Looks like you both had good runs. Thanks for being Foxes.?

I was busy for a while & then not so much.

I didn¡¯t get past the WY & CO group.

Just wondering if anybody on out there tried.

I don¡¯t think I didn¡¯t hear anybody I didn¡¯t eventually dig out.

Several times my logging pgm just didn¡¯t act right.

I guess it had to be my AHK scheme.

I¡¯m sure you noticed a diff between me sending & the machine sending.

But since only 7 Qs in the last 30 mins, there was plenty of time for mistakes not to make a difference.

Tks for the Qs hounds.

Until next time 72 & 3,

KW4NJA Preliminary log for 80M 1.24.2025

Well........that was my first foray into the "world of Foxii land", and I must say it was quite a thrill.? I started working split up +1 on 3.566 until the pack of hounds thinned out. Around 0250Z I went simplex for a short time on 3.566 until I started getting hammered by another signal. I moved to 3.564 and resumed my CQ. It wasn't long before I started getting another small pileup of pelt hunters. I heard a few weak signals, but couldn't pull them out of the noise well enough to log a solid contact. My apologies for those I missed. Overall it was a great experience!! I hope I served you all well tonight. Thanks for Fritz's help in making sure I was all set. I look forward to my next rounds in February.? If there are any error in this log, please let me know.
