Re: [QRP-L] FOX: Really Rough Condx ;^(

really really rough .. almost *everyone* was at ESP levels, I could
hear hounds right at the noise and every once in a while somebody
would pop out. Wish I could say I had 52 Doc, my number is probably
closer to 32 :(

Sorry guys. Despite my best efforts, I only managed ~52 QSOes raw score.
I will do my best to post the log sometime Friday. Karl and Tom will be
surprised, I'll wager! And Todd AG0T was absolutely booming in here early
in the hunt. But conditions really went downhill from the beginning. QRN
was rough, reaching S8+ at the end. And QSB was a challenge throughout.
Plus several times guys decided to call CQ almost dead on-frequency [g].
Oh well.

I tried QSYing a couple of times, and the last one actually seemed to help
a lot. Thanks and congrats to you intrepid and excellent ops who found me
almost immediately. And what was truly impressive was how well everyone
worked as a true TEAM, working very quickly, so that I was able to put as
many guys as possible into the log in the few minutes we had left. I could
not hear anyone still calling at the very end. Thanks very much for this
true teamwork, guys. It was truly great teamwork by a great group of

Good job Doc. Too bad about the propagation. You were a solid S9 here in SE WI at the start of the hunt and about S8 when I worked you. About a half hour later we couldn't hear you anymore because a number of the Cheeseheads commented about not hearing you on 2 mtrs.

Hi Gary, you called it right. I too am hearing QSO's between the
East and West coast based on call sign but that is not certain. But I
don't hear any weak signals. Those I hear are real loud. So after an
hour of hearing no Fox or any hounds except those calling Doc, I'm about
to call it a night. At least I think I got Doc.

Not a peep from either Foxii nor any hounds.

Lots of good signals from Caribbean, PA, NY, AZ.

My only comfort at this point is others here are having the same luck

Back at it for the remaining 45 minutes.

I'm pretty sure I heard some hounds around 7.035, but I couldn't find

pretty quiet here in eastern PA.

Were both Foxes listening UP? Where were they?

All,

When the ether gods weren't smiling at me, they were down right rolling on the floor tonite.

Doc was a solid copy until 0230 when he just totally disappeared. The problem that I had was he was the only signal heard. NADA from the hounds so I had no idea where Doc was listening as he worked other stations. I did a simplex call and did not get through so I figured that it would be a good idea not to do that again. At 0245 he flew out of the mud and I rang his doorbell. One down and one to go.

John was a totally different story. I never heard him. In fact, the only hint that I had of where he was lurking was Todd's "N9NE" signal around 7.0355 or so. As the clock died, John was never heard and not worked.

Other than that, it was a great evening sitting out on the patio and enjoying the cool (finally) weather. Based on what I have read so far, I was pretty lucky. My best to all and a hearty "tnx" to both foxii.

Re: Ugly Night so far

Hey Gang,

Fairly ugly night here, too. Due to other commitments,
I don't get home until 30 to 45 minutes into the hunt.
45 minutes tonight. Found Doc pretty quickly. Also,
found John as well, but he was at ESP level. Way too
close, I'm afraid. A couple of times I could actually
hear the call, W1RT. However, no sense in calling when
I wouldn't have even known if he'd come back to me!

Well, onefer is better than last week!

Sure do miss the sunspots. We used to have short skip
available at this time of night. And, the other side
of the country still came in, too!

Re: Ugly Night at an End

Got Doc, K0EVZ, fairly early on here from eastern WI before he faded
away. Never heard John, W1RT, until 20 minutes were left. I found him
with the 2 elements at 65' pointed at him and the K2's AGC off with
the narrowest filter and audio filter on. He was at about the noise
level. I heard several hounds call him, including W2MY in TX and
WA9TZE downstate from me, but no one had any luck. The band seemed to
be quite noisey here. No shooting fish in a barrel tonite!
