take a look at the SGC Smartuner Yahoo Group. I just joined yesterday and was able to build the loop from specs provided by one of the group members. It needs to be tweaked because my SG239 Smartuner will match it okay on 40m, 15m, 12m, and 10m, but doesn't do the job on 160m, 80m, and 20m. It is supposed to work on all bands but I must not have the coil would just right or with the right wire. Basically, the loop is 260-ft of hookup wire wound on a 6-ft by 4-ft wooden frame (13 turns) and matched by an SGC SG239 Smartuner. =Lou, W8LI= On Dec 30, 2004, at 11:20 PM, Kip Williams N6NVP wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI¡¯d sure be interested in hearing more about the loop, Lou. Did you build as a magnetic loop? (Hints, please. Antenna¡¯s are what breaks my heart, here.) ? I was able to work W8RU but only because Ron wouldn¡¯t give up trying to get me. I know I should¡¯ve bought him a Christmas present! He more than earned it, tonight. ? #-#-#-# From: Lou Macknik

Used a new antenna this evening. A 13-turn loop (6' X 4') tuned by an SG-239 the whole thing laying against the bedroom wall about 10' off the ground, oriented for East/West but heard North/South nest. Tried an attic mounted slinky dipole and an MP-1 in the attic ,too, but the loop gave consistently better results. I heard W0NTA for a while and then the western path closed. W8RU was readable entire 2 hours although sometimes very weak. QTH here is Canton, GA 73, Lou W8LI On Dec 30, 2004, at 10:43 PM, Neal Enault wrote:

I must be living right because I managed to bag both Foxii tonight.
They both have good, but not great, signals into Georgia. From the number of unanswered CQs that I'm hearing them make, I assume not many hounds are hearing or getting through to them. Hopefully conditions will take a quick turn for the better. Kent, AE4Y |

Re: band condx
Hi Bill
From Okla W6EL predicted no chance, nil, nada for Jim and only 1-25% for Jerry. I think I did locate jim's freq +/- 43.2 but at the noise level and he later dissapeared completely. I located Jerry's sig early with much QSB and a big pack of hounds that finally thinned out and I worked him at 0241 but he had to ask for fills. His signal dissapeared shortly thereafter. Looks like W6EL Prop was pretty close from this QTH. I also use G4ILO's HFPROP propagation program: 72...........Ted.........AA5CK |

Well, now I don't know what to think. Every thing about propagation
went out the window last night cause I got a 2 fer after getting skunked last week. Condition were about the same but the band did not go long until the last part of the hunt and both foxii were loud here for most of the eveming. There was some qsb and noise but if you are persistent you can over come this. The W0EB log is out and it looks like only 2 Ohio station worked him.. Don't understand that. I am going to take a good hard look at the log and maybe there is an explanation there... Well every thing looks better today on the weather front, the sun is shining brightly but it is cold here. The trees are gleaming with ice as the sun shines through. Glad it did not get any worse or we may have lost our power. If it melts in the next day or so every thing will be ok.. Every one have a verry Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year... God Bless Bill N8WS |

Re: band condx

I could hear W0EB at first then he disappeared. I guess he moved up
because of QRM. I never really heard N9AW until just after 0300, and he was 599+ here in London, OH (25mi west of Cols). I almost could not believe it was a fox at first because he was so loud. One call and I had him. I finally heard W0EB again at the end but he was at noise level here. Couldn't raise him. Well, at least I didn't get skunked tonight. I've got about 15 inches of snow and ice in my driveway currently. The noise seemed to come up just as the hunt started. Two pelts for Christmas
ae4y
Both W0EB and N9AW are about equal in strength here in Georgia
tonight, but there's a bit of QSB on Jerry's signal. After trying for about 15 minutes to work N9AW, I gave up and tuned for W0EB. I managed to work him after about 6 or 7 calls and then went back to concentrate on N9AW. Another 6 or 7 calls and luckily I found a QSB peak and picked him off. Merry Christmas to all Fox Hunters and I hope you find pelts in your stockings! Kent, AE4Y |

Hmmmm must have lost a post some where...
I was wondering if anyone is using w6elprop or any other propagation program to see if they have any propagation to either foxii... W6ELProp does not show the path is open so things don't look so brite for me again but I will be in there trying... by the way todays solar numbers are sfi 99 a 18 k 2 Let me know what you think... FOX: N9AW foxii for 12/23/04
Lloyd Lachow
posted for Jerry:
Hello Fox Hunters, I am happy to be one of your foxii this evening. Jim, W0EB, and myself will be checking you out to see if you're naughty or nice fox hunters and we'll make our report to Santa later. My rig will be a Yaesu FT1000MP running at 5 watts into a 40 meter Delta Loop antenna facing NE-SW. I will call CQ FOX within 10 khz of 7040 and I plan to work split generally listening up about 1 to 1.5 khz. When activity subsides I will listen on my transmit frequency for those that can not work split but PLEASE do not transmit on my transmit frequency when you hear me add UP to my CQs. I am looking forward to the hunt and hope to work all of you. Happy Holidays to All ! Jerry, N9AW Hales Corners, WI (near Milwaukee) __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! band condx
squiresbill
Because of the weather there is not much to do today so I was looking
through the propagation program and found there is not going to be any propagation to either fox tonight from my location. (Northern Ohio)Sure don't look promising here. I don't know about you or where you are at but it would be interesting to find out if you have the W6ELProp program what it says for your location and if you get a pelt or not... We have 14 inches of snow and then it rained, boy what a mess, water under the snow makes it impossible for me to do anything with it. Hurry SPRING MAKE IT GO AWAY.... If your interested in seeing it look here, You will have to copy and paste it on your browser. See you in the pile up tonight. 72 Bill N8WS |

Band condx for tomorrow....
squiresbill
This does not look good for Ohio again, Band is bad tonight and I
don't think it will be any different for tomorrow. I was just looking around the foxii frequency and not much there. Heard a CO8 calling cq so the band has gone long and lots of noise that sounds like lightning static. SFI 99 A 18 K 1 DOES NOT LOOK GOOD either. Oh well the weather is bad here with about 10 inches of snow on the ground and it is still comming down.. looks like I don't have any other choise ILL BE IN THERE TRYING TO GET BOTH PELTS.... gO OHIO Bill N8WS |
