Re: K0DTJ Log for the FoxStravaganza

Hi John,
Thanks for your comments. The hunt started almost two hours before sunset here so absorption was still pretty high and my noise was low. My inverted V doublet doesn¡¯t put much RF at the low elevation needed to reach the east coast as I found out during the winter season. I¡¯m thinking of trying a vertical next year.

I¡¯ll be playing in the FQP a little this weekend and hope to work you then.

I was late to the woods last night and only heard 2 foxes on 40, listened very briefly on 80 but nothing there..? ?Heard and worked Cathy,? K4BAI Log Fox Extravaganza

Here is my log for last night's Fox Extravaganza. Thanks for all QSOs. I heard N8SS and NO2D working others on 40M, but never heard them call CQ or answer my CQs. From the logs, it seems that I should have tried 80M earlier than I did. I thought the best strategy was to work 40M hte first half and 80M the last half, but it appears that by the time I was calling on 80M, most hunters had given up on that band.

Please look for me and KU8E operating as W4AN/M in the FLorida QSO Party this weekend. 73/72, John, K4BAI.

Re: Fox Ex. 2025/04/25

Hi, John,?
I am sorry I did not hear you, or I heard you too faint to make out the call.? I read the "rules" before the Ex. and they said that all the foxes and committee members could call CQ fox.? I am neither, so did not think I was eligible to call CQ.? I agree that we do seem to have a strong pipeline between us.? You are almost always one of the strongest stations on the band when I hear you, whether it is a fox hunt or any other time.? For some reason my North-South aligned 80 meter doublet does seem to favor the Southeast.? Florida and the Carolina's also seem to come in strong here.? I will look for both of your stations in the Florida QSO Party.? It is one of my favorites.

Fox Ex. 2025/04/25

Below is the log for NO2D from Parker, Colorado.? We, too, had rolling thunderstorms all afternoon and right up to dinner time.? 40 meters has near S-9 QRN throughout the hunt. I did not hear two stations that I normally do on 40 meters, K0DTJ in CA and KR0U in CO.? Both were active, but I did not hear them.? My log is:

W4CMG? 0123 TN Cathy 5w
WC7S 0125 WY Dale 5w
K4PQC 0127 GA Phil 5w
NK9G 0130 WI Rick 5w

I heard no foxes for the first 23 minutes of the hunt.? I did hear one more fox calling, but could not make out her/his call.? No one was at all strong.? I gave out a nominal 559 because my S-meter was buried near S-9 throughout.? Looking forward to the summer hunt.? Thanks to everyone who helps to make our beloved fox hunts possible.? Without you all they just would not happen.

Pete, NO2D, Parker, CO.

I'm sure I missed some....? I have been plagued with powerline noise especially with wet weather.? Tonight was no exception.? The noise floor on 40 and 80 swung between S-4 and S-5.? So, if you were above the noise floor or if I could read your call you got an honest S-5.? The only exception is if you were in my backyard.??

If I didn't get?a reply after calling CQ a few times I switched bands so the?log combined.? The log is both running and S&P,? Lots of fun even with the noise.? Thanks for the QSOs? Looking forward?to our next QRPfozhunt session.

There is a bit of a delay (as my keystrokes traverse the internet to the W4NC K3 in Winston-Salem, and back).? So if/when you hear me, please give me a little more "room" before jumping in.

I do not have 80m capability...
