Several have wondered about the so-called "W5GI" antenna I will be using
tomorrow evening as one of the FOXes. It is the *multiband* version
produced by John W5GI. You can find out about it on his website =
<www.w5gi.com>. Dick W0NTA steered me in this direction several months
ago, and man oh man I am well-satisfied with it.
The site suggests that the optimum installation is as a flattop. But I
don't have tall trees or towers. So I have mine as a fairly flat inverted,
which John says this works nearly as well, anyway. Signal reports have
been very good thus far. I plan eventually to buy additional antennas from
him, maybe some of the monobanders. I will be using some multibanders for
our Disaster Relief units, for sure.
NOTE: I have no commercial ties with the producer, but am merely a highly
satisfied user.
