In grad school I had a 15 -25 kVA transformer I ran a MicroVAX II and a couple of terminals through under a work table. I had to move it away from the monitors it put out such a big field. It was left over from a Phoenix minicomputer system. The only power conditioner superior to a ferroressonant isolation transformer is a rotary motor-generator with a large flywheel.
The isolated ground aspect is most important for a ham shack or lab. It provides a ground which is isolated from the voltage so yjr only potential is between the two leads.

Hmm... perhaps I'm missing something here.? ?
While I have a whole-house protector in the service panel, all I use in addition at my bench is an off-the-shelf consumer device for computer/media equipment.? It's a reasonably nice one (4000 Joules) but very mundane. -- JimC (KQ7B)
