Maximum number of participants?
We are consistently getting 11-12 participants who are automatically signed up for the bi-monthly exchanges now. ?With a 12 person limit, this leaves little or no room for new participants who might like to sign up and try out an exchange. When Tom started the group in 2002 he set a limit of 15 participants per monthly B&W exchange. Those were the days when getting good B&W inkjet prints was a real challenge.? Gary |
Re: SIGNUP for the FEB/MAR Bi-Monthly REGULAR size print exchanges
USPS has always been very reliable for me also until very recently (Dec & early Jan) here in Eagle River.? This year, for the first time since we moved to Eagle River in 1995, we've experienced long delivery delays (7-10 days) of packages that arrived from Anchorage to our local post office.? They were drastically under staffed (due to retirements, illnesses, scheduled vacations) and unable to keep up with the holiday crush of packages.? Those problems seem to have been resolved now, but I'm not sure if it is just because fewer packages need to be delivered.
I generally drop the print exchange packages off at the Anchorage airport or main midtown post office and then run some errands in town while I'm there, so it's not an inconvenience for me. Gary |

开云体育I agree with that. ?In my area the postal delivery is by far the best, UPS is quite good, Fedex has gone way down and DHL has gone from terrible to bad. ?I got my pack of pix today. ?Very good shipping Gary but I’m not sure it warrants you taking even more of your time to bring them to the airport. ? Hi folks, Signup will close on February 15th.? I will post the final lists on the 16th.? Please ship your prints so they arrive in Alaska before the end of March.? The following photographers are currently signed up for the Color print exchange:
? Please ship your prints for repackaging to: Gary Benson 9843 Little Diomede Circle Eagle River, Alaska 99577 ? TO SUCCESSFULLY PARTICIPATE PLEASE READ ALL OF THE GUIDELINES BELOW =================================================================== 1) Prints are to be on larger size papers (for example 11x14", 11x17", 13x19" or A3). Please sign the print (generally done on the front).? 2) On about the 15th of the month you will be notified of how many participants there are for each exchange.? You are to print one print for each of the other participants AND one for yourself.? 3) Prints should be enclosed in individual clear sleeves along with a Tech/Data Sheet. Include the date of the exchange, your name, print title and any information about the subject matter, printer, inkset, software, workflow etc on the Tech/Data Sheet which may be of interest to other participants.? Optional: also include your own?critique?of your image.? 4) Make sure that whatever return box or mailing method you use can accommodate the larger sized prints. ?5) For example, mailing your prints (addressed to the print exchange coordinator) in a flattened USPS Flat Rate medium size box with an enclosed prepaid USPS Click-n-Ship return label for a Flat Rate Medium size box (addressed to yourself)?should work ok, although some US post offices are charging postage based on the actual dimensions of the flattened box instead of the Medium Flat Rate postage. ?See this message for additional details?and images of how others have packaged their prints. 6) If you have not included a return postage pre-paid label please send the print exchange coordinator $15 for the cost of a USPS Flat Rate Medium size box attached to a sheet of paper which?clearly?shows your return address.? 7) Upload a file of the image you have printed into the?correct photo album.? It permits those that are not actively participating in the current exchange an opportunity to observe.? It also creates a historical record that is useful over the years.? 8) Comments on prints are welcome and encouraged, but are not required for participation in a print exchange.? USPS back in good form?
I dropped off the mailers/boxes of prints at the Anchorage midtown post office at about 1pm on Tuesday the 31st.? They were logged in at the Anchorage USPS distribution center (near the Anchorage International Airport) later that day at 11pm.? Jeff Deam's prints were delivered to his home north of Seattle this afternoon at 4pm.? That's just 50 hours from the time I dropped them off here.? It is the quickest delivery of prints that I can remember.? I hope the rest of the packages make to each of you in good time also!
I wasn't going to risk mailing them from my local post office here in Eagle River. Gary |

Gary, Thanks for the kind words about my cactus flower pictures.? As there are very few cactus flowers open now, I have started a series of Amaryllis flower pictures.? I never imagined there was such a variety in colors and shapes.? I'll probably include one in the exchange later this year. Thanks for keeping the exchange going.? I've been in the exchange for just a few cycles, but enjoy it very much. Riclk Holmes

I think you will all find many prints to enjoy in this exchange.? As always, there is quite a variety of subjects and scenes, processing styles and choices of papers.? I continue to be amazed at Rick Holmes focus stacked image color prints of the cactus flowers etc.? I think his print this month is my favorite from that series. Nara's choice of a metallic paper for his color photo of the Himalayan Monal created an absolutely stunning print.? There are so many fine prints in this exchange, I would actually love to see many of my favorites from the past year again in the large print exchange, if that were possible.? Perhaps that is something the large exchange participants could consider: select one of your favorite images printed for the letter/A4 size exchanges in 2022 and print it again for the 13x19/A3 exchange.? Just a thought.? I am already going to do that for one of my Feb/Mar 13x19 prints. Thanks to everyone who participates and keeps the exchanges going.? Those of us who have been at this for many years, through the ups and downs, know how important YOUR continued participation is to the life of this exchange. Gary |
