UPDATE: Dec/Jan prints
A belated Happy New Year to each of you!? Best wishes for 2023.
I've received the December/January prints from many of you already (thanks!!).? I'm still waiting for prints from four participants. Hopefully those prints are in the mail or will be soon. I will be in the Seattle area from the 20th thru the 26th, so it would be great if all the prints arrive here in Eagle River before I leave or get back.? We have had some significant delays in USPS package delivery here for the past month, so please post your prints to me ASAP.? I would like to get them re-packaged and in the mail back to everyone before February 1st. Regarding the February/March exchanges.? I suggest we have both the regular size and large size B&W and Color print exchanges, as we did in 2022.? For the regular exchange participants here who have NOT participated in a large print exchange in the past, I will be reaching out to each of you individually with a "special offer" and incentive to give the large print exchange a try. With regards, Gary ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Please ship your prints so they arrive in Alaska NO LATER than the last week of January. Re: Oct/Nov Exchange
I certainly agree about Otto's image of the gears.? Others in the exchange and friends I've shown the prints to have had a similar reaction.? When Otto sent that image and others to me as possible candidates to print, the gears image really stood out. I couldn't figure out what it was.? When Otto sent the description for the data sheet I was amazed (again) at his creativity and ingenuity!? Something I have always lacked.
There were many other prints in this exchange that I have gone back to look at enjoy time and time again.? Gary |
Oct/Nov Exchange
I just got home from over a month traveling and the latest exchange prints were waiting for me. A very nice early Christmas present :) While I was impressed, as usual, with the excellent images in both the color and BW groups, one color image truly stood out for me. Otto Bacon¡¯s ¡°Gears etc¡± was amazing. Everything - from the creative assemblage of parts to the lighting and presentation to the paper that so well suited the image - went together fabulously. Thanks, Otto, for one helluva fine print!

Re: FINAL DEC/JAN 2023 Exchange Participant Lists
I agree...there were some very good prints in these sets with a nice variety of subjects and papers.
I finished making 3 sets of color and 2 sets of B&W prints for the next exchange yesterday.? Now I'm thinking ahead and making test prints in preparation for the February/March large print exchange. :-) Happy holidays to all! Gary |

Re: SIGNUP is OPEN for the DEC/JAN Bi-Monthly Print Exchanges
Hi Mike. ?Although I don¡¯t wish sub-freezing weather on anyone and can barely tolerate it myself anymore, it certainly can present some wonderful photo opportunities! ?I look forward to seeing your color prints of the hoar frost and I¡¯ll add you to the list now.
I have seen very few IR photos that really click with me, but of course that is a very subjective view. ?Perhaps I just haven¡¯t looked at enough of them. You¡¯ll be getting quite a large package of prints from multiple exchanges when we complete the Feb/Mar 13x19 and regular exchange and get them mailed out in early April. Gary |
Re: Off topic
Very glad that your plane landed safely Jayanand before the cyclone made landfall! ?I imagine it was a rough and bumpy ride with a big storm like that so close.
We have another winter storm warning in effect. ?It¡¯s expected to start snowing soon with the forecast for my area of another 14-18 inches over the next 24 hours. ?Shovels are ready! Gary |
Re: SIGNUP is OPEN for the DEC/JAN Bi-Monthly Print Exchanges
Hi Gary, Well this weekend I planned to put my final touches to my January trip to?Hokkaido. Serendipity?played a part in it being our coldest December nights/days in many years?here in the South of England. Dropping to -7.5C and today it didn't get above 0C all day. I can't remember the last time that happened here in December, normally Jan or more likely Feb. So I thought I would venture out and do a few camera tests in the cold, but once I got into the garden I realised we had a rare hoar frost and the scenery was rather more beautiful than I was expecting. Anyway to cut to the chase I took some colour photos and after some easy prints, I think they are worthy of sending into the exchange. So sign me up for colour dec/jan.? I plan to send 2 colour prints. One is rather cute.... Not sure any of them work better in B&W and I don't like to force the conversion. I did also take out the IR converted GFX50 I have, and nothing really stood out. Still a work in progress. One aspect I did appreciate was the shadows are naturally a lot softer in IR. Lots to learn here. Anyway glad I can take a small part in the exchange this time, will ship before I head off to Japan and yes we can sort out a mega return to me after the Feb 13 x 19 exchange.
