Re: Exchange frequency
I took advantage of some of the time freed up in the evenings, when I do all my Photoshop and printing work, to add in some volunteer time with our local emergency services (...I'm now the team lead for emergency communications at our local hospital), so in general, I'm good with the current frequency.? But if you decide to offer another set of exchanges on a sign-up basis, then I'm sure there are times throughout the year when I could participate.

Sign Up Now for the JUNE/JULY Print Exchanges
Hi folks, The sign-up will close on June 15th.? I will post the final lists on the 16th. Please ship your prints so they arrive in Alaska NO LATER than the last week of July. The following photographers are currently signed up for the Black & White exchange:
The following photographers are currently signed up for the Color print exchange:
Please ship your prints for repackaging to: Gary Benson ? TO SUCCESSFULLY PARTICIPATE PLEASE READ ALL OF THE GUIDELINES BELOW =================================================================== 1) Prints are to be on either Letter (8.5x11) or A4 (8.3"x11.7") size paper. Please sign the print (generally done on the front).? 2) On about the 15th of the month you will be notified of how many participants there are for each exchange.? You are to print one print for each of the other participants and one for yourself.? 3) Prints should be enclosed in individual clear sleeves (for example Clear Bags B811SNF) along with a Tech Sheet. Include the date of the exchange, your name, print title and any information about the subject matter, printer, inkset, software, workflow etc on the Tech Sheet which may be of interest to other participants.? Optional: also include your own?critique?of your image.? 4) Make sure that whatever return box or mailing method you use can accommodate both Letter (8.5x11) and A4 (8.3"x11.7") sized prints.??The total number of prints submitted is likely be greater than for the prior monthly print exchanges, so for those participants in the USA a USPS Flat Rate Medium size box is probably the best choice, especially if you are participating in both the B&W and Color print exchanges. ?5) For example, mailing your prints (addressed to the print exchange coordinator) in a USPS Flat Rate envelope or medium size box with an enclosed prepaid USPS Click-n-Ship return LABEL for a Flat Rate envelope or medium size box (addressed to yourself)?should work?very well. ?See this message for additional details?and images of how others have packaged their prints. 6) If you have not included a return postage pre-paid label please send the print exchange coordinator funds for the cost of a USPS Flat Rate envelope or medium size box (whichever you prefer to use) attached to a sheet of paper which?clearly?shows your return address.? 7) Upload a file of the image you have printed into the?correct photo album.? It permits those that are not actively participating in the current exchange an opportunity to observe.? It also creates a historical record that is useful over the years.? 8) Comments on prints are welcome and encouraged, but are not required for participation in a print exchange.? Any topic or theme for a print exchange is entirely optional. With best regards, Gary Benson one of the print exchange moderators |
Re: Our print exchange frequency was monthly, then quartery and bi-monthly...ready for an extra monthly exchange?
Hi Gary, Maybe this is on your radar already, but I always envisioned providing my printing services free of labour charge to some charity, if I had more time to print. Re: Our print exchange frequency was monthly, then quartery and bi-monthly...ready for an extra monthly exchange?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýGary-Maybe the measure of when we need to increase the frequency will be signaled by when we have to turn people away on the bi-monthly schedule.? I see the problem is a lot bigger for our 4 regular off shore compatriots and it would burden them much more than you or me (we respect that, guys and value your loyalty and participation). I must admit that I agreed to join in but am a bit relieved not to be doing it ¡ª at the same time, I love getting the prints, I just don¡¯t get out as much as I used to for making photos. I must correct that personal weakness and get my act together! Cheers, Tom Tom O'Connell tomoconnell44@...

I¡¯ll just keep on printing and look for another outlet to share prints more frequently. ?One advantage of being semi-retired is I have much more time and a desire to make more prints. ?The disadvantage is what do I do with them? ?:-) |
Re: Our print exchange frequency was monthly, then quartery and bi-monthly...ready for an extra monthly exchange?
I would prefer to continue the present system. Bimonthly suits me fine Cheers Jayanand On Mon, May 29, 2023 at 7:44?AM Gary <bensonga@...> wrote: I know I am.? I've already made 3 sets of color prints for the June/July bi-monthly print exchange. |
Re: Our print exchange frequency was monthly, then quartery and bi-monthly...ready for an extra monthly exchange?
Good to hear some of your thoughts on a monthly exchange.?
I was apparently not clear re my intention when I said "Bi-monthly can continue to be the default schedule" that what I had in mind was the addtion of another exchange on the in between months, so for those of us who would like to participate more often than the regular bi-monthly exchange, there will be another exchange to fill the gap. Here's an example:? I will be posting the signup for the June/July bi-monthly B&W and Color exchanges on June 1st and the prints will be due in Alaska by the end of JULY.? So we have approximately two months to wait to receive those prints.? Two months should give everyone plenty of time to select images, make the prints and ship them to me. With an addtional monthly exchange, I would post another signup on June 1st for a separate exchange with the prints due in Alaska by the end of JUNE.? This could be a separate set of both B&W and Color exchanges with prints due by June 30th or perhaps a single combined BW/Color exchange and the participants could choose to sumbit any prints they like, whether BW, color or both (as I would most likely do). I recognize that having monthly exchanges would double the cost of participation (for both printing and shipping/postage) and the shipping costs would be especially significant for Jayanand/Nara/Prab (India) and Mike (UK).? This is why I suggest it as an optional add-on exchange to fill the gap for those of who wish to partipate more frequently and the cost of doing so is less onerous.? The Bi-monthly exchanges would continue to be the standard B&W and Color exchanges. Gary |
Re: Our print exchange frequency was monthly, then quartery and bi-monthly...ready for an extra monthly exchange?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI¡¯d give monthly a try, but probably would make one print/exchange rather than two, if I am being realistic.?My concern is for the postage expense for our members in Europe and Asia. And for the extra burden on your time, Gary, of course. I am up for the occasional common themes, though the last time we polled it didn¡¯t meet with enthusiasm.

Re: Our print exchange frequency was monthly, then quartery and bi-monthly...ready for an extra monthly exchange?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Gary-I would definitely be up for monthly again. I guess I would wonder how many would be. If it lowered the number of participants, then I would say we should stay with bi-monthly, but I sense we could fill the roster with all the new signups we¡¯ve seen lately. So Count Me In if you switch it to monthly. Tom Tom O'Connell tomoconnell44@...

Re: Our print exchange frequency was monthly, then quartery and bi-monthly...ready for an extra monthly exchange?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Gary!Such enthusiasm! Love it.? I¡¯d be willing to sign on for once a month exchange (as much as getting the once-every-other prints out can be a challenge with less than daily used printers!¡ªthis would mean more frequency).? What do you think about an alternating color / monochrome ¡°month,¡± or perhaps theme-centric months? (Landscape, portrait, things with engines¡). These are just ideas¡ªnot attached¡ªand would like to hear what others think.? If you need some help with the admin, I¡¯m up for that as well.? Cheers, ¡ª´³´Ç²õ³ó

Our print exchange frequency was monthly, then quartery and bi-monthly...ready for an extra monthly exchange?
I know I am.? I've already made 3 sets of color prints for the June/July bi-monthly print exchange.
Not everyone may have the time or inclination to participate on a monthly schedule, but I would sure like to share and see prints from each of you more frequently than we do now.? Two months to wait for another set of prints often feels so long to me. Care to share your thoughts?? Bi-monthly can continue to be the default schedule. Not everyone may want to sign up for a monthly exchange. I can handle a monthly process on my end if some of you are interested (as an incentive, I could cover the return mailing costs). Gary |
