REMINDER: OCT/NOV prints due by Nov 30th
Hi folks,
Thanks to Steve, Tom and Rob for getting their prints to me early! I hope that everyone else participating in the Oct/Nov exchange is on track to get their prints to me by the end of the month.? With the Thanksgiving holiday coming up next Thursday here in the US, I'm sure many of you will be busy celebrating with family and friends.? This week would be a good time to print and mail. Gary |
Re: Print Exchange Group Cover Photo
I do like the idea of having both a B&W and Color image appearing as the "Cover Photo" for the group, so I've updated it to include a B&W photo by Steve Mustoe from a recent exchange and it appears the left of Josh Daniels' photo.?
I don't think there is a way in the Groups.io environment to automate the selection and update of a rotating series of cover photos as Josh suggested, so it will need to be updated manually by one of the admins/moderators. Gary |
Re: Print Exchange Group Cover Photo
That is a good idea. Changing it every three months using only those images shared in our online folder in the previous three months appeals to me. As far as I am concerned, whether the image is colour or b&w is immaterial if the innate quality of the image is high Cheers Jayanand On Mon, Oct 23, 2023 at 12:10?AM Gary <bensonga@...> wrote: Hi folks.? ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Gary¡ªand All:?Great idea to change out the ¡°banner¡± photo, and thank you, Gary, for selecting mine.? I think it¡¯d be cool to figure out a method (app? / platform we could post to and / o link to from groups.io?) that allows for interval setting and rotating ¡°picture of the ____.¡± I don¡¯t have time at the moment to research this, but I¡¯m guessing it¡¯s a feature of several photo-centric platforms or apps.? Re: Print Exchange Group Cover Photo
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Gary-Good idea to change it up now and then.? The one thing I would suggest is that we continue some way to show BW/Color split in the photo. I think this was Jim Coffee¡¯s idea (and a good one). That concept limits the turn off to anyone who works in only one format or the other.? Maybe this could turn out to be a benefit to posting photos¡pick one you really like that was posted each month and use that for a month (or two). This would encourage posting (which I admit to being increasingly poor at¡sorry for that). Josh may not like that with his excellent scene photo, and some photos are open to that more than others but I pass it on to be considered. Cheers, Tom Tom O'Connell tomoconnell44@...

Print Exchange Group Cover Photo
Hi folks.? We've had the same photo as the "cover image" on the group home page for many, many years.? I've thought for several months that it was time for a change.? Without a clear idea of how to select an image for display, I just decided to pick an image from a prior print exchange.? The image you see on the home page now is one that Josh Daniels printed and submitted for the April/May 2023 color exchange.
I'd like to hear any suggestions you might have for updating the group's cover image periodically.? My first thought was to alternate black & white and color images from prior print exchanges (that have been uploaded to the Photos albums) on a bi-monthly basis to match our print exchange schedule.? The group could leave it to Tom, Jayanand and myself (the group moderators) to pick the image or we could adopt some other process to select an image for temporary display. Your thoughts? Gary |

Hi folks,
I dropped all of the mailers and boxes off at the Eagle River post office this afternoon, so US participants should receive them in the next 3-4 days.? The package to India will take about 2 weeks. I thought this was a particularly good set of prints for both exchanges. Thanks again to everyone who is participating! Gary |

Re: Update re June/July prints
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýStephen Considering the quality of the photos in this exchange I¡¯m flattered by your comments about my photo. Thank you. Jeff ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Stephen Mustoe
Sent: Sunday, August 13, 2023 1:09 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [print-exchanges] Update re June/July prints ? Another great set of prints arrived in my mailbox a few days ago. Several of them stood out in a pretty solid crowd. ? * Rick¡¯s color Echinopsis prints, along with his BW Aeonium print, were Rhonda¡¯s favorites. Unfortunately she is now asking me to learn about focus stacking¡ ? * Robert¡¯s Color Iris print was also exceptional. ? * Jeff¡¯s Green Heron is simply stunning, worthy of an upscale birding guide. ? * At first I was not overly impressed with Jayanand¡¯s Flower Bazaar print, but once I took it out of the sleeve and held it under my bright proofing lamp the shadow detail came alive. What a difference! I guess the lesson is that - as always - lighting is critical, both to the taking and the viewing. Superb image. ? * Lastly, Nara¡¯s Mystic Beast struck a nostalgic chord. On my (only) trip to India in 1985 I spend a day and a night in Khajuraho, and was overwhelmed by the intricately carved temples there. I shot several rolls of Kodachrome on my old Leica, including several photos of the same lion and the man statue. I may need to go back and see if any of those old images are worth scanning and printing - though I¡¯ll confess that the majority of them were of erotic carvings that may not be exchange-appropriate :) ? Thanks everyone for all the wonderful prints, and special thanks to Gary for making it all come together! ? ? ? |
