New to the list 3
Getting trained by local emcomm groups on winlink. The windows focus has been frustrating though as well their lack of understanding the system from a non-windows POV. Do you run paclink-unix on your desktop ? Or do you recommend running it on a server? We have two hams in the house, can it be set up for multiuser config? Interested in the following, getting sound card modems ported and setting up packages repos to install from. That last one I might be able to do. I think it would help if we could use apt or yum to install. Rod Young KF4UWL

Webapp 13
OK!! I am gonna need some help here, especially from Bill!!! Bill, I have installed node.js on my debian jessie but when I try to run it: # nodejs /opt/paclink-unix/webapp/plu-server.js module.js:340 throw err; ^ Error: Cannot find module 'websocket' at Function.Module._resolveFilename (module.js:338:15) at Function.Module._load (module.js:280:25) at Module.require (module.js:364:17) at require (module.js:380:17) at Object.<anonymous> (/opt/linux/paclink-unix/webapp/plu-server.js:47:23) at Module._compile (module.js:456:26) at Object.Module._extensions..js (module.js:474:10) at Module.load (module.js:356:32) at Function.Module._load (module.js:312:12) at Function.Module.runMain (module.js:497:10) the only available packages for websocket in debian is: # aptitude search websocket |grep -i node p node-faye-websocket - standards-compliant WebSocket p node-websocket-driver - WebSocket protocol handler with In either case, I have the same error. Googling around I found that there are a bunch of websocket libraries. Which on to use??? 73 de sv1ljj -- Apostolos Kefalas <sv1ljj@...>

Winmor TNC with Wine
This is correct and usual mode for doing this. Unfortunately RMS Express (or .NET framework programs under Wine) don't recognize this. I have com1 and com2 defined in my ~/.wine/dosdevices but still no COM port in RMS Express Regards Franco Spinelli IW2DHW

Vedr. Re: Winmor TNC with Wine
You have to link the virtual comport from WINE to the physical on the computer. open a shell and go to your home directory to .wine/dosdevices type sudo ln -s /dev/ttyUSB0 com1 change ttyUSB0 to whatever device yhe interface is connected to. or ttySx if it's a serial device. You might have to add your user to the "dialout" group. Kai G¨¹nter LA3QMA

ARDOP, the Amateur Radio Digital Open Protocol 4
My fellow open source hams, As you know, there has long been a desire for an open source sound card modem/digital data protocol that ran on Linux; several times development has started on a C port of WINMOR, only for the developer to mysteriously disappear in the middle of the project. These events, along with the realization that he's "painted himself into a corner" so to speak, have prompted Rick KN6KB to seek the assistance of someone within the open source community to assist in the design of a new protocol that will work on all platforms; I volunteered to help and have contributed to the initial development of the new protocol. Rick's current development work is in VB.NET, but he and I have decided that the final version will use C#; the Windows version will probably be Windows Forms based while the Linux based version will use Gtk# and Mono. This will also allow MacOS users to run the software with Mono; I have a basic form that has successfully run on a Raspberry Pi, though I do not expect that hardware to be a very good performing choice. Depending on how I choose to proceed, this may also be usable on Android devices; I will need to do some testing on this before I can be certain of that. While on the subject of alternate operating platforms, having something like ARDOP that can be run on them brings up the need for client applications as well; I do have the development tools for a Linux and Android Client and am looking into acquisition of a Mac to allow me to develop for MacOS/iOS as well. Rick and I would like some feedback on this; I will post more extensive information on the protocol and the current status of development tomorrow afternoon, local time. Berkeley DB version 3
I see in the INSTALL file that I should choose the latest DB (4.x) from Oracle. The latest is 6.0.30 with the latest 4.x of 4.8.30. The earliest 4.x version available is 4.0.17. Question: which version to use with paclink-unix? Am I d/l'ing too much, so that I really need only some dev files? Need a bit more hand-holding, I guess. Dale. KG5LT

Problem with packlink-unix in wl2ktelnet mode 4
I have compiled PaclinkUNIX-0.5 on an Ubuntu 13.04 system and the compile went correctly. I can receive Winlink 2000 messages via sendmail but when I create a message, the wl2ktelnet connects to the server, it appears that the message is sent to the CMS server but the message never arrives at the destination. I no errors in the transmission and am curious where the message goes. I am using the -m option on mail.wl2k for sendmail.cf but still no luck. The message is /usr/local/var/wl2k/outbox looks like: Mid: AKX8G_WA7MXZ Date: 2014/04/10 21:11 Type: Private From: SMTP:bobw@... To: SMTP:bob.wood@... Here's an update. Jeff suggested that I use his @gnome.org address, so I figured I'd use mine as well. I've also replaced all instances of KE7KRO with N7NIX. I'm doing a re-up on my sourceforge.net account ; it seems I may have let it lapse. If that comes through, I'll request commit access on that site. Here's the diffstat: AUTHORS | 8 ++++++-- ChangeLog | 16 ++++++++++++++++ configure.ac | 28 ++++++++++++++-------------- doc/wl2kax25d.1 | 2 +- 4 files changed, 37 insertions(+), 17 deletions(-) Here's the ChangeLog entry: 2014-04-05 -0700 C.J. patch -> 0.6: review request
Hey there Basil and other authors, While making this patch to configure.ac, I added myself to the AUTHORS file with a note to contact me with automake and autoconf needs. I also saw that my old friend Jeff is in this file with a really, really outdated email address. He probably needs more messages in his inbox, so I updated this as well. I figured since I'm touching multiple files, I should probably update the ChangeLog file as well. So I did. And since I've at this point touched three files, I figured it might be a good time to increment the version number. Patch attached for review! Cheers, C.J.
