Andrea, I use the Astronomic UHC filter for galaxies and find that I get good contrast with that filter from the city.

The NBZ ?has great reviews!

As it is a narrowband filter ( hydrogen and Oiii) it will really help with ?nebula ?photography from the City. ?That is what there are so many narrowband filters on the market for astrophotographers
who live in light polluted areas. The Rosette, Orion and ?M1 are all targets that emit in Hydrogen alpha and Oxygen iii, (at least M1 will have both)
?
Galaxies are broadband targets and will be hard from the city not matter what filter you use.

Very pretty Simon
Is that the NBZ dual band filter?

Interesting night here under Bortle 9+ skies in downtown Ottawa last night ¡
?
Really bad transparency (just ahead of a weather front)¡ galaxies like NGC 891 were barely visible in DS432m + UHC on 8¡± SCT ¡ yet I snapped the best image I have ever captured of M42 using the DS10cTEC + NBZ on EVO50 refractor (between
rooftops, trees and electrical wires !!!)..?
?
I was so pleased with it that I have posted the raw image and its processed equivalent ¡ None too shabby for a 2¡± scope downtown !!
?
?
I also had a nether fo at NGC 2244 (Rosette) ¡ and was none too displeased.
?
While galaxies didn¡¯t do too well with the 432m last night, M1 showed up very nicely with lots of internal filament detail.
?
Conclusion ? : ?bad sky conditions affected the type of light coming in from galaxies differently from the type of light coming in from bright nebulae. Some among the group can undoubtedly tell us exactly what and how ¡?
