Interesting night here under Bortle 9+ skies in downtown Ottawa last night …

Really bad transparency (just ahead of a weather front)… galaxies like NGC 891 were barely visible in DS432m + UHC on 8” SCT … yet I snapped the best image I have ever captured of M42 using the DS10cTEC + NBZ on EVO50 refractor (between rooftops, trees and electrical wires !!!)..?

I was so pleased with it that I have posted the raw image and its processed equivalent … None too shabby for a 2” scope downtown !!

I also had a nether fo at NGC 2244 (Rosette) … and was none too displeased.

While galaxies didn’t do too well with the 432m last night, M1 showed up very nicely with lots of internal filament detail.

Conclusion ? : ?bad sky conditions affected the type of light coming in from galaxies differently from the type of light coming in from bright nebulae. Some among the group can undoubtedly tell us exactly what and how …?
