? To all,
Attached is the SET Exercise Instructions.? Today, I finally received information as to who at American Red Cross Pacific Island Region we will be sending the two ARC messages.? He is Paul Klink, the ARC Sheltering Lead.
Please note we are in a COVID-19 stay at home situation and have had triple digit positive cases reported for the State and an increase in deaths cause from COVID-19.? Except for Kauai, no other private shelters are willing to open up for the exercise nor have responded so far.? The safety of our radio operators must come first.? I highly suggest the radio operators operate from the safety of their homes.? Simulate they are at a simulated shelter and use batteries, solar panels, generators, etc. and operate not using the electrical grid.? The can operate from their back yard as an example.? We also will be using for the first time the ARC Hurricane Shelter Daily Report (see details in the attachment).
There is an addition to the exercise.? I added the Part 2 - Skywarn (Optional) to the exercise.? Though we will be simulating the activation of hurricane evacuation shelter pre-hurricane landfall, the Skywarn portion of the exercise will include simulating a severe weather report.? Please read the attachment below.? I highly suggest you participate in the Skywarn portion because there should be time between sending the two ARC messages.? We can discuss that part of the exercise with Kevin Bogan (AH6QO), the State Skywarn Ham Coordinator who will join us for this Zoom meeting.?
As a reminder, we will have a final SET Zoom planning meeting this coming Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 8 a.m. HST to 9:30 a.m.? The draft meeting agenda will be:
- Welcome and Admin (please input your first name and callsign) - Review the SET Exercise Instructions and open for any questions - Report by each DEC what are their plans for the exercise - Review the Part 2 Optional Skywarn Exercise - Any other last questions - Reminder the SET After Action Report Zoom meeting will be on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 8 a.m.
Joe Tabrah (KH6FHI) will send you a Zoom invitation this week for the meeting.
Any questions, please contact me.

Re: May RACES meeting this coming Monday on Zoom
Not sure when you got this as we did look at issues and zoom has made multiple updates.
One of the biggest users is the Dept of Homeland Security.
The problem you have mentioned I believe was from a January posting. Zoom has had multiple updates since then and is used by state agencies as well as the C&C Honolulu. We are using a paid for version and not the free version.

?Folks:
Here's an update regarding the above subject.
Pacific Woolen can do the following:
1. ?Install spiders (reinforced holes) and velcro on the epaulets of your shirts. ?This will do two things: 1. ?Prevent damage of the epaulet material from repetitive rank application; and 2. The velcro will keep the epaulets from sticking up and arching. ?The cost is about $10.00.
2. ?Hem up your sleeves if they fall more than an inch or two below your elbow (to make it look more professional). The cost for this is approximately $15.
Other alterations (e.g., taking the sides in) are also authorized, but I have no cost estimate for that at this time. ?
Please pass this on to your personnel.
Jeff
