Gold has been associated with two lead mining areas in Scotland - near Tyndrum and at Wanlockhead. At the former, there has been search for gold in modern times, with a long exploratory tunnel dug

I visited the Cononish mine a few years ago (as a geologist) just as the current operation was getting going. Unfortunately we were not permitted to take photos for company confidentiality reasons.
